Hi: Driving an '84 Westy. I was cleaning the wiring to the sensor in the coolant pressure tank and found that someone in the last 25 years had soldered the 2 wires together under the boot. I repaired the wires and all works well. Anyone hazard a guess why they would have done that and what the result would have been? Thanks

That one only senses coolant level, not temperature. If the leads were connected, the light would always act correctly blinking on start-up, but it would never sense a low water level.
