Can anyone help me out with a problem? I recently purchased a Richporter technoligies svda distributor for my 1600 thing engine. I did this to get rid of the stinking flat spot from my 009 dizzy I've been using. It has electronic ignition in it as well. There were no directions with this thing, so I did the normal , put the engine at tdc. ,made sure the rotor was pointing at #1 cylinder wire. I put the starter wire, choke wire ,etc. on the red wire. nothing is on the other terminal. I have the plug wires all on the proper firing order. Turn the key and....nothing! Put the old coil and dizzy back on and instant start. Any ideas?

Call the manufacture and ask them. If they can't help ask for a refund.

The dreaded flat spot blamed on the 009 is a carb tuning issue not a distributor problem.

I keep hearing conflicting ideas on this subject, but at any rate I've got a problem with this thing. Why would you not put instructions in with the product? Seems dumb to me.

Not when using it with a 34 PICT 3.

The red wire goes to the (+) positive side of the coil and the black wire goes to the (-) negative side of the coil.

Let me be more specific on my Richporter dizzy problem...there are no markings on the coil (+,-) there is a red wire on one coil terminal and two toned wire on the other . I hooked the ignition wire to the red side. I just hear a click when turning the key. Put the old dizzy and coil back on and she starts rite up. The coil came with the vw10 Richporter and is already wired to the electronic ignition . Any suggestions?

Someone let the magic electrical smoke out of the ignition module.
Only take a fraction of a second hooked up wrong to fry a ignition module.

When I pull the ignition wire off the coil , the engine turns over fine. reinstall and nuttin'. I just chatted with a guy who has one and he says I've wired it properly. Maybe a bad coil? I was checking voltages and left the ignition key on for about one minute.. the coil terminal/ignition wire was hot to the touch.

What do you mean by turns over fine, or nuttin'?
Are you talking about the starter which cranks or turns over the engine? OR are you talking about the engine not firing or running? Two totally different topics. Starter or ignition, which one?

yes, the starter turns over the engine, but since the ignition wire is off the coil ,it will not fire.

Dave Sale,

Well, the same thing just happened to me today. - Received my new distributor (VW10) today. What? No instructions! I too called left a message, and spoke to some girl in customer service that promised that "Paul" would call me back right away. Still waiting.

Everything with the install went smooth until I had to connect to the coil.

I guessed that the larger terminal would be for the hot wires (choke, etc.)

- Nothing! - Tried it the other way. Nothing!

Dave, did you ever get yours resolved?

Guessing isn't foolproof. It's like picking a lotto number.

No, I even tried a 2nd one with the same results. I sent both back and was refunded my money. My advice is to get the aircoolin net dizzy (that has the proper curve) and pay a little more for something that actually works! Hope this helps.

In my 45 years of working on VW's, I have never had a problem installing distributors with stock points.

It's not rocket science. If you understand how they work, it's easy.
