I think this should be an ongoing thread for Front Range folks who hit the U-pull-it yards...

I went to check out the '87 "Wolfsburg Edition GL Vanagon" (as stated on U pull and pay's website) this morning. I was excited to see what was there; possibly a rear bed to replace mine just because I like the newer style and it's the same slightly narrower seat.

However,

It's NOT a Wolfsburg. It's a straight-up '87 GL.

Having said that, as of 9 AM today, the thing was virtually untouched.

Body straight, awful gigantic tube rear bumper, very good front bumper with one end cap and one bumper strip. Both grills uncracked; the upper grill had the very large VW emblem.

The engine and transmission were complete, but a guy was going after some FI parts while I was there. Front and rear suspension complete.

The dash is black with no cracks anywhere. Good glove box. OEM Heidleberg radio. Overhead A/C system all there.

Instrument cluster gone.

The front seats are grey velour with adjustable armrests and are flawless. Same with the middle and rear seats. The rear seat is a GL seat so it only folds forward. Door cards intact; I didn't check to see if the slider card was there.

One floppy side mirror.

Engine cover mat was there and intact but dirty.

So basically, there's an entire '87 GL out there. I was pissed that it wasn't a Wolfsburg, but there are a LOT of good parts on it.

(I apologize for forgetting to take pictures!)

Happy Hunting!

I guess I need to check my own threads (that or I checked this one when intoxicated and forgot you mentioned that 87).

So I to saw they had it listed as a wolfsburg, so I got pretty excited. It's not, but heres some pics. I got the door panel, the seats were gone(front). A little more picked over now. This is the same upullandpay that I got my westy interior from, was kinda hoping for a repeat.

There's a '93 Eurovan CL out at U-pull-it in Aurora at Colfax and Zeno.

It's blue with dark blue interior. I went out there hoping to get the front seats, but they were a bit ratty (big hole in driver's side bottom cushion, a few cigarette burns) and the armrests were screwed up, so I left them.

They just got this one so it's pretty much intact, except for the steering wheel--I took it for $10 bucks.

Happy Hunting.

I wish I could find a F*&%ing Vanagon in a U-pull-it yard around here!!!!!!!

Ya I saw that EV too, I was thinking about the seats but they were rough, so I passed, the steering wheel was also pretty rough looking to me, so I passed as well.

I'll update in this thread as I find more vans. I forgot to post a couple and I wish I had now.

With LSU having a bye last weekend, I was finally able to forget about college football for a few days and spend some much-needed Vanagon time.

There are two (as of Saturday) out at the u-pull-it yard on 66th and Broadway.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

--1981 Westfalia. Poptop was intact and restorable. A couple of Wolfsburg chrome hubcaps, drivetrain intact. Sombody had gotten most of the interior, but the rear cabinet and overhead cabinet were still there. I got the shifter base radio box and the dash Very Happy. This one looked to have had a full and fun life based on the fabrics that had been added to the interior.

--1987 Syncro hardtop. The drivetrain was gone, but a lot of the suspension and undercarriage bits were still intact. The interior was in really good shape, i.e. rear seats (brown) and door cards. The body is just about flawless. Sad that this one wasn't saved.

Again this is all as-of Saturday morning. I was there early; I'm sure that many others have visited since then!

Well.

I killed it yesterday at Pull n Save on Peoria. I scouted Saturday and found a 2004 Legacy and a 98 TDI Jetta.

The Jetta was pretty much untouched. Starter was missing. I got the engine complete, tranny, ecu and harness. Unknown mileage but I did get the cluster too. Drum roll.........$375 for the whole thing.

2004 Legacy, the motor minus timing belt and covers and pulleys, mileage unknown. I also got complete harness and ecu. $225.

It was 28 degrees with minimal sunshine.

I love junkyarding. I wish I could hit them more often.

FYI there is a stripped 90 syncro at the colorado springs upullandpay.

Drove down today hoping there was still something left of the syncro bits, of course they were gone. There a week ago, gone now, someone got the deal of a lifetime.

The gas tank and filler were still in the vehicle, but the rear windows(that I also wanted) were gone, along with the dash and passenger side door.

really there is not much left on it.

So thats where it all went to. If I didn't live in a tiny apartment, I would have thought harder about what to take.

That's my posting on craigslist and also the samba. Such a shame, that 1990 syncro was almost nicer than the one I drive everyday. I pleaded with upullandpay management to sell me the whole thing but no go. Thanks to local samba dude Chad for tipping me off the day that thing arrived. More parts will be posted soon...
