That's my posting on craigslist and also the samba. Such a shame, that 1990 syncro was almost nicer than the one I drive everyday. I pleaded with upullandpay management to sell me the whole thing but no go. Thanks to local samba dude Chad for tipping me off the day that thing arrived. More parts will be posted soon... |
Damm man, nice score, you lucked out!
Did you also pull the rear windows?
Next time post up when you are done stripping the syncro bits(I get not posting before), you could have saved me a 5 hour round trip drive and a tank of gas. _________________ '91 Carat Westy

They were gone when I drove down, I was wondering if you took them, but I'm guessing no.
Nice score man, I'm green with envy.
There was a real clean SVX with 103k on it and a new alternator, I was eyeing that a bit in my mind going "I came loaded for bear, maybe I should get another SVX engine for spares."
But it was so damm cold and windy that I booked it. _________________ '91 Carat Westy

And also a heads up that some Denver junkyards have 50% off tomorrow! The ones I know about are LKQ and U-Pull.... _________________ 1983 Air Cooled Westy (Shaniqua) |

There's a very picked over '85 tintop at the Denver u pull-n-pay, just south of I25xUS36 interchange, row TK8
I pulled a few trim pieces and used it to test fit mudflaps from some nearby 1st gen (worked) and 2nd gen (no way) Forerunners. The mid-body slider windows, rear seats, suspension, glass and the 1.9L engine are still there, most else is gone. If I had more time, I'd have tried out some thoughts on opening rear hatch and side windows. _________________ The Syncro years (2005-16) - The 2WD years (2017-23) - Westy & WBX rebuild spreadsheet - Sanchius & Tuna: The Video

There is a 1980 Westy at the Denver U-Pull & Pay. It was listed on their website as a 1980 Eurovan.
It had an engine fire and most of the interior is pretty picked over. Looks like someone pulled the seat swivels apart but appears all the parts are in the van. The top and luggage rack are weathered but appear sound if anyone is looking for a camper conversion.
The front bumper was painted black and was straight with the end caps.
ps: If anyone is going to check this out, I saw it at the end of the day and didn't have time to pull something. Beer and good karma to someone that could, pm me if it might be possible. _________________ '84 Westy, '93 Subaru ej22 and Subarugears 5speed

I saw that van on Saturday. There was not much left of it. I was able to pull the driver's side drip rail molding though.
Mtnhome, I'm sorry I didn't see your post before I went out there!

Yeah, not much left of the old girl.
I pulled the ignition lock mechanism from her the week before.
While we were there, we also grabbed a couple Audi A6 sun-visor garage door openers to fit to the fleet.
Did you see the SVX there that still had the engine?
How about the smooshed nissan 360zx with the biohazard stickers all over it... OUCH, don't be that guy!
I love that place, it's the cheapest entertainment in town. _________________ The Syncro years (2005-16) - The 2WD years (2017-23) - Westy & WBX rebuild spreadsheet - Sanchius & Tuna: The Video

Those biohazard stickers freak me out. There was an Outback at a yard over in Aurora that had those stickers all over it, and there was blood all over the airbags. For some reason I thought it was illegal to put those out in u-pull-it yards, but I guess not. In any case, they're creepy. I could see getting over my phobia if it was a nice Vanagon, though.
I love the u-pull-it yards. I actually prefer to think of it as hiking. It's very similar: walking long distances on rugged terrain with a heavy pack looking at scenery! _________________ Joe T.

Not in Denver. Not even in Colorado. But if you're anywhere near Springtown, TX, you can have this beauty for free (clear Texas title).
Ummm. There's a coupla things in there I still want. |

how is the panel around the passenger rear wheel ?
My daughter will be fixing her boo-boo visible in this pic and that's the bit we need. |
This one fell to a similar injury (though not as bad). Certainly not worth a trip to Texas.
*edit*
Here's a really bad photo (you decide):

I also wanted to mention that there's a KIA minivan in the Aurora U Pull and Pay that has the flip-up cupholder tray thing in tan and in perfect condition, as referenced in this thread:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5...5ebb6783d0
I actually unbolted the thing to get a better look at it, but decided that it was too large to work with swivel seats. The brackets have kind of an odd curve to them for their placement on the side of the passenger seat, so that would definitely need to be modified. They're very similar to the Odyssey tray and might work for a brown or tan interior/non-swivel Vanagon if you're willing to put in the work. I left it sitting between the seats. _________________ Joe T.

A cyclist coworker of mine just told me that Blake's Salvage in Erie closed down, but that there's still a field of VW's out there. I haven't been out there in years (because they were less than pleasant to deal with--$30 for a middle bench seat belt) but they had a whole bunch of Vanagons from what I remember.
Anybody know what they're doing with the inventory?
ETA: never mind, found my answer:
