Yep, it's out at U Pull and Pay. I went this morning. It's in the premium lot, which is ridiculous (it means you have an escort and all prices are doubled.)

It's pretty crispy, but there's good stuff there.

The Westy side port things are fine, as are the GoWesty wheels.

The upper front grill is good, early clock/speedo cluster is fine.

Nothing in the cabinets, and all of the latches were bad.

Basically, anything from the front of the van is in good shape. The pop top (no roof vent) is salvageable and the hinges looked good.

It was obviously a well-loved Vanagon; it had nice touches and it's a shame that it burned.

Here are some sub-par photos.

The SA lower grill had already been removed and was sitting in the front seats, so I took it. It was more than I wanted to pay, but I'll try it out and if I don't like it I'll sell it on down the line.

I ran into Sambanista "Sanchius" and his daughter out there as well! We were chuckling about how it's always a race when a new one comes around.

The parts are twice as much as they should be, but its definitely worth a look if you've got some specific things you need or want to do a pop top conversion.

I'm surprised that it was in the Premium Lot with late-model, expensive cars. I guess U-pull and Pay has, like so many others, realized that Vanagons are somehow worth their weight in gold...

In other news, I got a perfect rear tray for the Beetle for five bucks. Because everybody hates New Beetles and they tend to self-destruct at 100k miles or less, they're starting to accumulate in the yards and the parts are basically free. Score!

The lower grille cleaned up well; I plasti-dipped both the upper and lower and like the way they turned out.

It's been very dry here for the last 6-9 months.

They have become so valuable that they just aren't ending up in the junkyards anymore.

I did put my SyncroWesty wreck for parting out on Craigslist early this morning: https://denver.craigslist.org/pts/d/1987-vw-vanagon-syncro/6304132197.html

I've been watching like a hawk lately and there hasn't been anything.

The last one was several months ago, an '86 Weekender down in the U-pull-it south of Littleton which got competely stripped pretty quickly.

This was Saturday at U-pull-and-pay Aurora.

Pretty much intact. I wanted the driver's side door but it was pretty toasted with rust and clear coat damage. I did get a few bits that I've been needing, though (side vent, hardware, door hinge stops, etc.) Most importantly I FINALLY GOT THE MISSING C-CLAMP FOR MY REAR WIPER STALK! Super excited. It's the little things.

It was funny, the lady at the checkout asked what vehicle the parts were from and I told her it was the Vanagon. She said, "man, we have had so many calls from people who want to buy the whole van, but nobody wants to come pull parts."

**Usual disclaimer: I don't have time to go back out there so don't PM me to go pull anything.**

Looks like an ’85 Wolfsburg interior?

Those headrests are in fine condition, no solar damage!

'85 GL. The whole interior was in remarkable (albeit dusty) condition. I thought about snatching those headrests but I thought it better karma-wise to leave the seats intact.

I'm in denver for a couple of days and need some parts, has anybody seen vans at the yards recently? Just did a quick sweep of online inventories and didn't see any. Ideally looking for an 86+, but I'm not too picky!

I haven't seen one in a yard since that GL mentioned above last year. They're getting few and far between.

It's getting really rare to find Vanagon's in the boneyards anymore.
If I was still in Denver, I'd be down there pulling the trans to build up with a posi.
But I'm not, so here you go...

Sanchius,

This makes me chuckle...If you were still living here I'm sure I would have met you out there at 9AM. As it stands, I was first!

I got the email alert at midnight and was there before the doors opened this morning, just got back. '83 Diesel Sunroof. Almost completely intact, and all of the plastic bits were present and in remarkably good condition. Dash, switches, knobs, grab handles...It has the cool diesel heater tunnel to the back seats, too.

It has the later diesel carrier bars with the strap underneath. I really wanted to stay and pull it all, but I got a few odds and ends that I wanted and figured I'd leave the rest for the next fella.

I also jabbed my hand rather effectively with a screwdriver while trying to get a vent out and left a substantial blood offering to the Vanagon Gods. (Nothing like an open wound in the sanitary environs of a junk yard.) I took it as a message to leave all the stuff I didn't need.

LKQ in Aurora. Lots of good stuff here. But be warned, LKQ charges triple what every other u-pull-it yard charges. And they're a-holes about it for added measure.

Bummer that the rear bench/bed is crushed. Would have been a nice part.

so.... you left a diesel starter there in the box in the front? and.. the stub axles, which I was thinking of beating off the nut with my hammer off tool, they wanted $43/each. I haven't decided if that is a lot, or the 'usual gouge' .. Left anyway, and went to get a Merc rim off CL guy. Looks like the rear swing arms are fairly OK, maybe the bearing housings, not sure. Anyway, I didn't get anything off it yet. Maybe I will this week. [ Got here about 1:00 local time ] now I need to find a tire place, I only want to truck back the rim, the rubber is of no use to me.. its load 92, a 15" tire. Free to anyone who sees this in the Denver area for the next day'ish..
