Did some fooling around with the center Westfalia Box. I had one set aside for this bus and finally got around to putting it together and cleaning it up.
The Orange Westys have this brown tape and even brown rubber bumpers. The box I'm using, as you can see is from an Orange Westy. I need to recover it and replace the tape, bumpers, and straps.
The straps on the original boxes tend to split apart. So I cleaned them and reglued them.
A section of material was stapled into place then the border was covered in black cloth tape. I cleaned everything and put it back together.
Don't forget the poo pail.
Place it in the rest of the restored bus

What kind of glue did you use to rejoin the straps? And please report in down the line on how it holds up. |
It was just some 3m spray glue. I used it as well for the 77's ftaps years ago - 2013. Seen in the pic below, the tip has opened up again.

Dang,
This is a real connoisseur's type of bus.
Takes owning one or a few for many years to appreciate...
Now that my kids are grown,
If I was single, or as a couple, this is exactly the way to roll.
Newbies are always about pop-tops,
But if you live with them long enough..
Your tastes evolve.
This year,
In this configuration,
In this shape.
It's a rare, rare beast,
And going to be worth as much as any bus one day methinks.
You just watch... _________________ Bus Motor Build

Play time is just about over. She should be listed soon to see what COVID auctions might bring.

I'd be very interested in seeing how it does. A clean bus, with great configuration, and well-cared for. _________________ 1979 Transporter (sold)

Jason - you will never find another one that nice. We are about to go into a new tomorrow. CO2 emissions are way down globally because of the shelter in home all over the world. Many companies are using telecommuting. This has been noticed by the people who are intensely against global climate changing due to CO2 rises. If they put pressure on Government to force industries to allow much more telecommuting and video conferencing - we may see lower traffic on the highways - which in turn may make bus driving and camping more fun. Just thinking out loud. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

I hear you brother. Good thing I still have this one. This white bus was always meant to "flip". I won't find another like it for sure. I need to break my 64 notch out of mothballs and start my T34 Convertible project. Hell I may sell the yellow one in a couple of years.

I put the original belts back in as they were in good shape. I also added more in the rear since its a full bench.
Turned out well.

Welcome back!
As I get ever so closer to listing this bus for sale, little things just keep poping up. Well this latest one isnt little. I drove the bus around a lot in June. To the beach, to lunch, around town just trying to get some me time in it before I sell. Good thing too as it pushed a master cylinder issue to the top.
It leaked into the vac can. So I just ordered a new master as the can seems to be fine and in original shape The ATE he came with looks great once cleaned up and repainted.
Next is to install and bleed the brakes.

About this time in 1974 I bought a new P21 Westfalia almost identical to this one. Only differences were that it had a 4 speed and the gas heater and fresh air fans were standard equipment. I was driving a rust free 63 Kombi with a nice camper setup at the time but when I saw this, I knew had to have it. Always regretted selling it. Kept the bill of sale for some reason. But I have a very similar 79 version these days.
Someone will be getting a very nice bus! |

Little test drive up to Lake Dixon. Worked like a charm.
While there I started to gather "listing" photos.
