No plans to bring the syncro to the island, I think I'll leave it on the mainland for roadtrips and expeditions there. I like it though, if there was further to drive here I'd consider selling my sami and picking one up for camping etc. |

I think it's pretty funny you guys have sports cars on a small island. What can you do except driving the same three roads over and over again? Hmm... Repaint it every month.
Robby Naish, you know the windsurfer dude, he has a bunch of Porches and stuff. Well, he can very fast to Diamond Head and back to Kailua for sure. But that must be about it.
Don't get me wrong here, I like fast cars too. I have 108937 miles of road around here though... |

I totally agree with ya,Swedish man
I actually don't have a sports car here, speed limit is 60 on the island and no race track:talk about frustration,I even get caught speeding with the vanagon I drive it the European way
Here is the video of the Wildvan getting out of 4 years storage.....

Thanks for those vids, that was fun.
I am amazed how well your van started after 4 years in storage..... and it seems it ran well too, did you drive it for your all trip? _________________ 86 Syncro Tintop G60

I had a purpose built racecar back home, and have had several sports cars. An M3 will be one of my next car purchases, but I could not justify it over here. Too much traffic and too few decent roads to drive on. My cabrio does fine and gets 30mpg. _________________ 86 syncro CHC, NorthWesty subbie 2.5, decoupler, locker, custom interior, 225/75r16 Duratrack's on CLK's, Toyo cabin heater, ARB fridge, 300w Zamp Solar, Gowesty bumpers/skid/rails, Fiama awning

I was amazed too the injection pump didn't even need to be primed or anything:we've put on the booster pack, and that was all .Even the batteries were not shot after 4 years, totally empty but still good.I did unplugged them though 4 years ago.
I drove the van a little over 5000 kilometers,we drifted it with my friend as a co-pilot on the windy roads of Corsica island mostly, went off road a little bit,and made many turns around these roundabouts which abound out there, all sliding and spining rear tires playing on the gas pedal:that was fun, especially when the road is wet
Svenakela how come are you coming to O'ahu? you have a job or dual citizenship to do so?
Are you gonna import stuff?

Yeah, Oahu is no place for sports cars and is funny to see how many people don't realize that. I have the opportunity to drive a '12 Porsche turbo s here from time to time and it is actually often downright unpleasant in local traffic. I also raced a lot before coming here... put many many miles down in rally, hillclimb, roadrace, icerace, etc. but have adjusted well. I actually thought there was a track here when I took my current job and then figured out it was closed shortly before I left the mainland... oh well, time to find new fun. I bought the old diesel westy right away and it has been the perfect island cruiser. We camp at least 2 weekends a month, sometimes more. Got to find a cool new place to camp though, fav spot might not be avail much longer. We should all try to find a cool, van friendly spot up north for camping and "club" meetings. _________________ 1982 1.6 NA Diesel Westy

My wife have a research project at the university. I haven't decided really what to do, either stay at the company I work for now (they want me to) or find a local job. Plenty of time before it happens though so I'm for once in no hurry. |

Plenty of time to surf while wifey is at the university
I have run a motocross bike and done some amazing offroading on the Big Island and Maui...I've been passed by some sports cars doing well over the speed limit....it happens.
Slow down, speeding is for mainlanders |

There's lots of space and opportunity to drive fast on the Big Island, especially down South. Can't say as I saw a whole lot of cops during my drive along the entire perimeter _________________ Casey--

It seems the engine is running really good. I am not sure if I could get at that speed that fast but got it over 100mph last time (gps checked since those big tires are fooling the speedo), wind might have helped a little of course......
Looks like you are having fun back home... I mean your second home. _________________ 86 Syncro Tintop G60

Merci Mr Bluefirefly,I'm always having fun at Hawai'i home
Van accelerates fast but is slow after 90 MPH
I love playing with it,such a thrill to accelerate like that,I drive with lead sole shoes
For CASEY :
I went riding the Monkey in the mountains yesterday,it fits easily between the gates' frames I was able to access remote places that require a permit this way
And had a nice hippie sunset rainbow after that

Alex, you da man! I bet that scooter could use some wheelie bars for when you blip the throttle too much upon launch. How's the pup like the ride?

The dog loves the ride,I'm trying to upload a video on Youtube, but last night connection failed during the process
You will see,as soon as I kick start it,she barks like crazy to either run along or jump on my lap to get a ride.
I don't even know how she does it,she just sits there, sometimes her paws on the triple tee where the handle bars attach, sometimes just trying to not get launched.I block her with my elbows againts my waist when it shakes too much, the hardest point being going down a steep hill
Not a lot of parts from the red bike subsist on the new one.
Rear hub,foot peg,trip tee,and...uh,I think that's it.
The process have eliminated a lot of them, what a shit pile it was,i would have never get that poor thing running without a lot of cash,so I decided to spend the money wisely and build something better.
140CC it is,first gear is a pancake maker (you land on your back if you fail being VERY gentle with the throttle )

Looks really nice, I like it.
Unfortunately, we already have too much snow to ride something like it right know.
