Hi, I've always wanted an oval, but never been close enough to one to notice the difference in parts compated to early 60's bugs. I'm interested in an early 55'model, but it's missing parts. Specifically seats and aprons... My question is, is it possible to run 60's low backs until some fixed 55's seats cross my path? And, is there a supplier for H-aprons, front and rear? Or can you use other years for the aprons?? What other things are important to look at on Oval bugs? I'm very familiar with early split busses and early-late 60's bugs.... Hate to sound like such a newbie here....but I don't want to jump into anything that I'll never be able to finish because of parts availability or cost. Thanks!!!

Early 55 and mid 55 cars are quite different. The early is basically the same as a 53, same pan, doors, apron, etc. The mid-55 seats can be had for $150+ the early 55 $500+ for the set when available. I'm pretty sure there are suppliers for aprons. Yes, you can run the seats from a late 55 and up but they fit tigher to the doors and feel cramped when installed. The seat track seemed to line up for mine when I tried newer ones.
Good luck |

Thanks so much! If all goes well, I'll have her home soon. Won't be posting pics until it happens though! Learned my lesson over on the Split Bus Forum area!! Plenty of vultures out there!!! Thanks again!
