Buy a Rialta |
Wash you mouth out with factory correct antifreeze.
A Rialta? Really? That would be sweet. I could have an Air Supply dance party in it, then maybe we could all go rollerblading to the pub and have some appletinis.
Joking. In now way am I trying to insult anyone...execpt people who drive Rialtas, listen to Air Supply, rollerblade or drink appletinis.

I know a guy who put a floor drain and shower curtain in his homebuilt Sportsmobile style Ford van. The humidy and moisture and general contamination of your living area with everything you were trying to wash off you was quite gross.
Basically, if you are dirty enough that you feel like you really NEED a shower, you don't want to be in you van with running hot water.
So many better options: Solar shower, bucket/sponge, dishpan/wash cloth, etc. |

With all the problems fighting seam rust due to condensation in the fibreglass insulation isn't it basically committing Vaniside by introducing this much humidity/water vapour/water to the interior of the van? People talk about the fridge making too much condensation and rusting out the seams...imagine a shower!
What about having a shower head & controls affixed to the rear hatch with a permanently-attached tent shower stall surrounding it? Pop one of these on the ground:
and undo a couple velcro straps and instant shower stall. Maybe even attach the wood bottom and then it all unfurls as one unit and won't get blown around. _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

If affordable on a retirement budget, a gym membership seems to make the most sense for keeping clean as well as fit while living in your Van. _________________ Westy HID Projector Retrofit |

if you are thinking you want something that is not permenant maybe you could do a 6" deep plastic tub Maybe 3' x 3' with a drain with a hose that you could shower than crack the slider and let it drain out. samba search (ultimate shower) there are some great ideas in that thread. |
That would work...but then I'd have to set all that up and carry it around. I want something built in and ready to go all the time. Plus I like to make things overly complicated...
I saw the ultimate shower thread...maybe I should delete this thread... |
I think your idea is great. When I first got my westy I wanted to do the same thing, but I chickened out when it came time to cut the floor. I was thinking of buying a plastic utility washtub - about 2 foot square - and cutting it down to size and then somehow installing it permanently in a hole in the floor... I imagine it could be done, but you would only have one chance to get it right. Then just setup you shower above that and all good to go. I built the indoor shower apparatus but use a plastic tub so stand in. That works ok but if i could put the floor mount in I would do it in a heartbeat.
You would have to mount the shower floor in a way that you could build a cover that would go over it when not in use - some kind of lip or something that it could rest on. Also the shifter linkage etc...to contend with _________________ 1982 Westy

around here in the east coast, there's plenty of state parks with shower facilities. and only a $7 day use if you're boondocking it someplace else.
sometimes the park will let you in the gate to 'check out' perspective sites..
then a quick slip thru the shower and your out no charge.. of couse this is stealing services to some extent.. but we've plenty of water out here. it falls so deep we have to shovel it all winter

Most beach parks or public pools will offer free or next to free showers as well. Some campground let you use their facilities during day time for a reduced fee.
Seems like there are plenty of ways to get a shower without turning your van into a makeshift bathroom. _________________ Vanagon GL 1988 Full Camper, 4 speed manual, 2.1 stock engine

Why not a rubberbladder (?) flat to fit inside rear lid, a drain connect to shower hose/head, a sturdy latch or maybe the pcv tube on a shock strut to keep lid up, lot o wasted space in there. |

I have just received one of the first run of 'T3 Cabin's.
http://www.t3cabin.com/english
It's a shower/privacy room that attaches to the tailgate.

[/img]
Couple this with some rubber mat/rollup duck boards and a decent water system and I hope the wife will like it.
I haven't had a free/dry day to try it yet but will report back soon.
