Thanks God for AAA.....

Took my newly purchased 1984 Westy in for a smog test this morning. Passed with no problem.

Stopped at grocery on the way home......started right back up with no problem.

Came to a stop at a light and stalled it when I shifted into 3rd accidently. Bus would not restart after that. It turns over but will not start.

Wondering if they did anything at the smog test that might be a culprit....they had the gas cap off during the test.

I was right around the corner from my house so had driver drop the bus in front of my house hoping this might be a simple fix.

I'm a nurse not a mechanic so I welcome thoughts/ideas from you folks that might be able to help diagnose this issue.

Thanks in advance...

Nate

Like a heartbeat and respiration -- you need to check the vitals. In this case they are fuel, air & spark.

We'll assume for the moment that air is not the issue.

Verify you haven't run out of gas.

Listen to hear if the fuel pump runs for a second or two when you switch on the ignition.

Check if you are getting a spark at a spark plug (any plug will do for a quick test).

Remove and watch an injector to see if it sprays fuel when everything is switched on.

Any manual (Bentley is best but really any manual for this) will explain how to check spark and injectors.

Once you have been though those steps you have will have hopefully narrowed down (or possibly found) the problem.

What does that remind me of? Oh yeah...
