Engine swap in 1969-1976 bus/camper

What type of non-bus engine can be put into a bus? Still a vw engine but something much newer so that once I do the engine swap, I dont have to worry about old parts constantly being replaced. Low miles...newer modern parts, etc?

probably the newest aircooled engine made fits, the 993 3.6L Porsche motor, takes a little work to make it work but its air cooled with lots of hp. Parts? lots of parts too.
