|
|
Back in the early 90s, when I was a young soldier stationed in Aurora and I had the air cooled sickness real bad, there was a shop called Randy's VW Stuff in Arvada. Randy was quite a character and helped me out with a string of Bugs and a Manx that I owned. He bought a '62 off of me once and I had the opportunity to visit his house. It was like VW paradise with a bunch of other makes and models as well. I think he was using a BMW Isetta as a lawn ornament. This guy provided a lot of free advice and information to an 18 year old with almost no money but lots of enthusiasm. Randy was the first "car guy" I had ever encountered and, in some small way, steered me down the path of a lifelong passion for internal combustion. Uncle Sam sent me on my way after a year in Denver and I always wondered what happened to that guy. |

I was stationed at Lowery AFB too, and Randys was an awsome place back then. Lots of crazy custom bugs and parts. Saw my first Type three ghia there. I just wonder if Randy still has all those wild cars stashed away somewhere... |

I remember when he used to be in Adams County off of 58th and I-25 behind the "Wendy's" restaurant. That's when he was called "Randy's VW" and got into a bit of trouble with copyrights. It's been almost 12 years since I last spoke with him and he told me he was selling it all and going to travel the world! I used to love to go into his old shop and visit, good times indeed! |

I sold a purple one about 10 years ago on e-bay for $40.00. I've seen the pinks ones bring upwards of $125.00. ! |

His shop no longer exists but the person that owns NuVintage used to work for him back in the day. I remember in '85 or '86 watching him running that pink 'vert into a curb on the way to Greeley for a show. He is doing American pre-60 stuff now. His shop was at I-25 and 58th. |

Back in 1985-6 I went there for chrome engine parts for my first car, a 70 Beetle. I still have the Randy's Stuff T-shirt my father bought me. I think of that place often. |

I got the pink and purple hotwheels too, That was a great store. I used to drive up once a week from the springs to get inventory for Hugh's VW's. Ahhhh the good old days. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

I lived in Boulder back in the early 80`s. My first car was a mint one owner 67 Beetle vert. bought it with all the money I had in the world...$1,000.00. For the next few years I would save and spend whatever money I had at Randy`s VW stuff. He also rebuilt my engine and that engine lasted 20 years! Great shop. I miss those days! |

I'm pretty sure an engine of mine went thru his shop via Mike Shor @ "Spirit Systems" in Boulder around '81-'82, lots of small VW shops used Randy & his connections back then....
God damn I miss those daze....A Split Bus on every other block
My driveway on 19th St. Boulder--1981-83 ish

This guy is still in/around Denver, plays with hotrods/Mopars and once in a while a Bus. Helped start "Pizza Public" that is on NW corner of Speer and Federal with Dave Imes, now a Porsche guy. Makes me feel kind of cool that some of you guys are from my hometown on here, Boulder- the old BCO!
Just dug up the old signed Randys Stuff Pink along with a Johnny Lightning Beetle and Speed Buggy new in package... I wonder aloud if anyone is old like me who recalls when Budwiser had the "Bud Man" a masked, caped crusader who drove a buggy in the 70's??? |
