Did someone say chicken?
Then she found her way into the food bucket:

Thor,
It's a pun ~ a pun is a play on words, and they are notorious for being hard to understand, especially if you're a non-native speaker.
Puns work by giving you a sound you expect, but a different spelling; the resulting confusion, and realization of the actual meaning is the "joke".
Many native speakers of English also do not find these jokes funny ~ just difficult to understand. Once they get the "joke", they aren't laughing because it's just confusing.
It actually works the same way as many shows on TV which use an actor to put regular people in strange spots. Like people who go into a shop, and walk around naked. The shop workers don't think it's funny, because they don't understand the "joke" ~ when they do understand, they sometimes laugh, but...
It's been true for me that humor in foreign languages is hard to understand. I speak German, Italian and Japanese, and jokes that rely on knowledge of the language, and contradictions in meaning, are by far the most difficult.

re the actual chicken in the van (pics). Now that's having very fresh fowl available. Does it poop a lot? Is it a pet? Looks like it. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Those are my pet chickens, I have 7(though the city laws here say I'm supposed to have only 6). the brown chickens lay blue-green eggs, the black ones lay brown eggs.
I took two "volunteers" and put them in the van for photos. _________________ '91 Carat Westy

WOW the American way. You can have 6! We couldn't have any in a city. Neat, different and excellent fresh eggs. How does your dog do with them around? _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

He does fine with them, for being a bird dog(golden retriever) he knows that he is not supposed to mess with the chickens. If I wanted to I could put him over in the chicken yard all day and all he would do is annoy them by sniffing them constantly.
(moving further off topic)
These are the eggs from today:

So you REALLY can say chicken d'van
Those videos should be required viewing for all wannabes and new owners. Oh what the heck ALL Vanagon owners/drivers should have to watch them. Excellent educational tools. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...
