You weasels in Colorado look at this one.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wolfsburg-Carat-Van...666wt_1165

Starting price 99 cents, now at $2.15. 9 days 20 some hours to go

I do realize that even the cleverest shyster wont be able to get it at this price however it's amazing still ... or is it true ?

Auto. Ugh!

Still. Thanks for the heads up. Will keep an eye on it to see where it goes. If it's going for a stupid amount I might even bid.

Well just because it has a low starting price, that really has no bearing on what the final price is. The person is taking a bit of a chance having no reserve, however whether he starts the bidding at 1 penny or 1000 dollars, the final price will end up the same.

When I have put things for bid, I have often started bidding out at a penny, just to hopefully get as many people interested early on it and putting bids in.

My day job is for the second biggest TV Wholesaler in the US. We sell just on ebay and start every TV at 99 cents. Let the buyers decide the final price. We do very well Smile

Are 90-91 the only years of the Tornado Red Carats? Were they limited in numbers compared to the other colors?

Rare to see them but when I do, I think they might be my favorite of all the non-westy vanagons....

We rarely see stuff go for over retail but we also have a lot of product listed at the same time. because of that we are, at times, our own worst enemy LOL

Its easy to get caught up in the moment. I dont need another vanagon but saw one on ebay a few days ago that i really liked. And thought it would be fun to take a road trip to go get it. So i put in my max bid and let it roll.
10 minutes later i get an email "You have just been outbid!"
Dang...
So i think...Well i can pay another 500 dollars...That wont hurt...
"Outbid again"
another bid.......
Outbid again"
CRAP!!!
I go to bid again and the auction is over...Sad
Outbid by 100 dollars.

I have had that happen several times. To get the car you want you have to bid with balls. I think thats why you see people paying top dollar sometimes.

What you and the other bidder did was force the price several hundred dollars higher than if one of you wasn't there! Smile

That's how auctions work. They rely on the frenzy.

Snipe services are great for not missing out yet having a disciplined approach (and perhaps not getting the bid run up by others). The one I use:

If you set a reserve price on that Carat at $7500 he might be one or two bidders. By having no reserve he might have dozens of people following it closely and then like sharks after a kill they will kill themselves at the last minute to win the bid. He may well make an extra grand or two by starting the bidding at a buck.

I use a bidding service or just bid at the last minute. Either I get it or I don't, no auction fever here.
