Busfusion 2010 Anniversary year is coming up. What Vanagons are hoping to make the trip? I'm really looking forward to it as I was unable to make BBB. Let's hear where you are coming from.

A little more information would help:
- What is it?
- Where is it?
- When is it? _________________ '90 White Westy ("White Lightning")

I dont know why they haven't said something in here. I'll have to extrapulate the info from an email. For starters it is in Almonte, Ontario which is quite near Ottawa. I'll see what I can dig out.

I have been to too many VW campout, Everybus being a very nice one also but sorry, Busfusion for it's location and it's crazy host beat it..
Read that!
EVERYBUS
BUSFUSION
Any similarity here?????
Yea, that's it, let's go, all generation, Bay's, Vanagon, Slpitty, Eurovan.
The hell with style and generation. If it was my choice, i would also invite ANY OWNER OF 14-18 FEET camper van, American made included.
I'm sailing lately, a new but similar hobby and passion, same stuff over there, a bunch of purist and intellectual.
I have very special customer, not the hight end one, just basic stuff, the lady is 81, he is blind and 79, but they bought the Vanagon new in 89. They still like to camp. They are somewhat sick... but still ok to drive to Busfusion, it took me a wile to convince them... they are coming.
I may sell my van, i have to move on the first of July, i have WAY to much job.... I should work 24/24... but I'm not missing Busfusion, even if i have to camp in a tent.
Respect!

ahhhh I just sold my tent. Looking forward to meeting you. I'm going early, staying some extra days and then hopefully a few days in Mtl visiting a Victorian BB downtown on St. Catherine street. My first trip in Scooby Blu. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Got an email from BusFusion. Remember the site being down last week, well it had an overwhelming amount of hits and views. hmmm wonder if I should charge for advertising. kidding.
Because this is an anniversary year they are making T shirts with 8 colors in them. When you register ($20.00) before May 31st, you get a free one. Otherwise first come first served at $20.00 each. They will also have the T shirts without colors so that you or your children can color them yourselves.
Each nite is $15. without hydro and $17. with hydro. Can't beat that and right on the side of a clean looking River. Fun stuff scheduled and last I heard a trip to the Diefenbunker in near by Carp. It's the last underground nuclear shelter available in Canada. They are recreating it with period pieces. All the others were filled with cement years ago. Short sighted people not realizing the value of our history.
It only went into lock down once in history and my cousin got caught inside. It was during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Diefenbaker wouldn't go into it because his wife couldn't so he wouldn't. His cot doesn't look very comfortable anyway. I went thru it 2 years ago, and grew up knowing all about it (but it was hush hush publically) as that is the immediate area where my father's family had dairy farms.
Look at the site, BUSFUSION that is, seriously consider it, there will be people from all over NA and upper Ottawa Valley hospitality is second to none - nulle secundus. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

We took in Busfusion last year and enjoyed it immensley.
Did the long route to get there - Calgary, Texas, Florida, Quebec, New Brunswick, Ontario - over 12,000km to there and another 2,500 to get home.
Didn't win the "furthest from home" award - measured directly, but it was fun anyway.
The site, as has been mentioned, is great by the water falls in the river. Quaint little old Ontario town. Great participants at the event. _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

First time...last time. We showed up Friday around 6pm and left first thing Saturday morning....
Unfortunately for me, (and my wife and 8-year-old) the local punks ruined it for us.
It started off as two cars parking close to where we were camped - they weren't driving buses and no one said anything. Then, about a dozen or so kids from the town showed up and decided to party. This went on from about 10pm to 2am.
Throw in smashed beer bottles, overturned garbage cans, drugs, foul language, yelling, screaming....you get the idea.
I'm pretty relaxed when it comes to noise and partying but this was too much.
To top it off, at about 3am I woke up to the sound of something smashing against my bus. I looked out the window and saw two punks running away. Thankfully, whatever they threw hit the pop-top, as there were no dents or scratches on the side of the bus.
Few of our VW neighbours were also upset and we did go talk to the punks a couple of times, but to no avail.
Baffling to me is that this goes on every year - at least that's what we were told when we mentioned it the next day. I'd be willing to throw in some extra cash for security, but looks like we won't be going back.
Yes, the cops were called at one point but the kids just scattered and returned 10 minutes later.
It's a bad feeling lying in your bus wondering what's going on outside, and not feeling safe. |

I had no problem with anyone there except for the punks. I was actually surprised that there weren't more VW folks up late partying.
We were having a great time before the punks showed up and would have stayed the whole weekend if they hadn't ruined it for us.
I know I probably sound like an old fogey, but the reality is I would have been up until dawn drinking beer around the campfire - but with a kid sleeping in the bus and drunk punks looming (throwing crap at my bus) around I thought it would be better to just stick around my own spot.
Depending on where you were camped you may not have seen or heard the worse of it.
That's the last I'll say on it as it looks as though most folks had a great time. |
