Well folks. Do you have the same sickness that I do? Even if your happy with your van you STILL check the classifieds everyday.
Well I found a one owner syncro adventurewagen. With 20k orginal miles! Shocked
I'm not even sure of the year yet but it looks to be post 87. That's super low miles....is there anything mechanical that will be compromised from mostly sitting for 20 years? The owner says it runs great....
Plus it ain't cheap...I would probably have to sell my syncro or Jetta to afford it.
Any thoughts besides "You dont care about vanagons!"? Rolling Eyes

Geez..I haven't even listed it for sale. Who's to say I even could go through with it.
I thought an almost brand new syncro adventurewagen was quite the find.

With just 20K miles the van shouldn't show any wear at all. I would look at the driver's seat and pedal pads for wear. A lot of times these are overlooked by someone trying to pull a fast one. Anything that gets used over and over while driving will show signs of wear. The fake leather grain on the steering wheel would be like new with just 20K. All the front end bushings would be original and in pristine condition.

Hope it turns out to be a once in a lifetime find for you.

When I was looking to buy my van, I was only looking for a Syncro Adventurewagen. That combination alone is rare. Add the allure of only 20k miles and I would be looking to sell some things to get that van as well.

Just remember to change the fuel lines.
Old rubber is still old rubber regardless as to how much fuel has passed through. Cooling system hoses are also suspect as per usual and head corrosion from improper coolant is still a possibility. Many components still age with time not just wear. Original tires (read danger) ??? Could be a great find though.

As stated above Rubber.

Fuel lines, tires, brake lines, brake fluid, caliper seals etc. I'd worry about engine gaskets and seals as well.

The worst thing for a vehicle is to have it sit, unused.

Did you ever get any photos of it? Do you mind sharing the ad now that it's gone?

A nice Syncro is on my list to own, but I always smile a little to myself when I see "it will go anywhere."

What a great article. That orange one in the article gives me a fluttery feeling in my stomach LOL.
