Metal parts and cars are replaceable, your not. Time for some upgrades and giving thanks that your still here to do them.........

I tell my wife all the time I'm easily replaceable! If I'm gone she could find a smart, in shape, good looking guy with a real full-time job and benefits! Not a shrek-looking, part-time college instructor like me. I always tell her that if I die, at least she gets the cat and house.

Your pan has weld marks now from shortening it already -right? So grafting it a new rear piece and using your old VIN piece is no different. I can see legal problems with altering the actual numbers or affixing a legally title piece on a known stolen chassis would get you hard time. Heck, these are 40 year old hunks of metal. Of course its not something I would advertise that I did it to DMV or the police. DMV makes it too hard to track abandoned vehicle or those where PO lost title - not to have a way to keep them on the road is crazy.

Sorry about your Buggy. Hope you get it back together the way it was.As for the other. Never tire in well doing. Most times if you need a blessing, be a blessing. If you need mercy, be merciful. You did the same thing I would hve done in that situation. It could be you or I in that place at any given moment. I would like to think that there are some people in this world that still care for others. But the list is shrinking. I have though met VW entusiasts who are those helpful guys and gals that will take the time to help. Thanks to this Samba site.

He got his buggy repaired and back on the road pretty quick, about 90 days after the accident.

No, but that was a quick attempt at faking the effect. I wish I had a tilt-shift lens. I did another one that is even less convincing.

To complicate matters, I took the pictures with my iPad.

It looked like the Hot Wheels California Meyers Manx car that came out a few years ago from Mattel.
Happy to hear that the car healed up very well!
Aloha!

You put your heart and soul into building something nice like that just to have somebody tear it up.

So sorry to hear your story. Really, the worst happens to the best of us. When I see the forum titles such as yours, I really don't want to read it but I force myself to to remind myself why we only take my mom's dune buggy out a couple times a year and why my dad won't let me drive my '70 till senior year. It's really hard to love the little cars because of their inherent safety factor and wouldn't ya know it, in two weeks, I'm going to pick up an MG Midget, MIDGET (aka, death trap)! I don't know about you guys but, it tears me apart...
