I was at Agurusa’s in that very bus last month. Could have made for some very toasty sandos apparently Mad. Bus ran nicely and didn’t smell of gas then. What a trip.

Since we all have time, one thing I wanted to square away was the headlight washers on the 77. Back when I first put these on, I had the wiring all set up and the things actually worked, kinda. The original pump and the backflow inline pressure valves were old and noncompliant. At first, I didn't know what the exact issue was. When I was initially trying to get it to squirt, only one side would work. Before I could figure it out, it stopped working.

Frustrate, I let it be till now.......................

My first thoughts on why it wouldn't work were correct. The single 45-year-old BOSCH water pump gave up the ghost. I purchased some modern headlight washer water pumps to make two and share the load. These smaller ones draw less as well.

So I pulled out the old pump, put the two new ones in with shared wiring harness and replaced the old og windshield squirter as well. The relay that runs the whole thing was suspect, so I cleaned that up as well with OE terminals.

My initial fix for the pressure valves was to remove them and put in a bypass seen in the pic. But I was able to play with a broke valve and found that you can pop off a cap, get to the spring and diaphragm. So I pulled the springs out, making a no pressure valve. The new pumps are not strong enough to push through the pressure valve. A combination of a stiff spring and old, harden diaphragms. After figuring that out, hooking the water lines all backup, she squirted like a champ!

After all that, I found that all the jet housings have some sort of crack in them Rolling Eyes I glued a couple with UV goop and they seem to be holding. If any part needs to be 3D printed, its these.

I've personally never seen one of these in action. Much like the Eberspacher clock, it was a fiddle around with it to see how it works affair. With the key on - Headlights on - there is a power wire from the headlight switch to the headlight washer relay that activates it - they will not work unless the headlights are on - figures so that you can see if they are cleaned - and they won't be activated when using just the windshield washer/intermittent wipers - so headlights on - pull up on the wiper stalk - it activates the headlight washers that only squirt a pulse of water - not continuous like the windshield water pump - so when you pull the stalk up - the headlight washer squirts, the windshield washer squirts, and the intermittent cycle is activated for three passes.

Now your front end is clean.

Shouldn't you have wipers on the headlights also? If you went to all that trouble. Poor headlights get sprayed in the face and no one to wipe them off. Cool

So I didn't think there was such a thing for the bay window. But there is Shocked
But, all washer systems I've seen in the wild do not have wipers. Even I have my limits onto how much crap to hang off a VW Laughing

I think the odd universal system may pop up from time to time, but you have to be on it for like a year of diligent searching. Or make a Volvo system work. Parts are cheap and plentiful.

Kuul ones here.

You can change those out. These are just the ones that came on the bus. There are many, fancy, metal, dual and even arm-mounted squirter systems out there.

Official measurement. 3" gain, the hard way.

One of the last things Im playing with is the Chem Toilet Speaker Box. I want to make an independent sitting/speaker box that goes off of blue tooth phone music.

The later Westys had an option for the real poo box. One that could hold a chemical toilet that sat behind the passenger seat. Option being - with or without the toilet. Stool or storage so to speak.

Its in this vein that I wanted to make my "sound system". I thought about doing a nice set up all around the inside but didn't want to run all the wire and make ninja holes to conceal it all. This is the beginning of this idea using the box.

I had a good size box on hand for a couple years now. COVID hobby time has me putting the feet on, laminating it and putting the T molding on to mimic the stock set up. I will do the top in OG yellow plaid fabric once I buy some hinges and cut a top.

I plan to have two bass pointing down to the floor and two 6x8 3 ways pointing back and to the driver side - separated down the middle making L&R.

When I break out the speaker, blue tooth and amp - Ill post those figures. Here is where the box is at now once I cut the T molding grooves out. Glued in as the channel is a bit loose.

Here are shots of OG Bay window ones and even better Vanagon types. No yellow pails here. This is propper pooping accessories. Keep the yellow pail for wobbly pops.
