my father is a drug addict. I have been officially disowned in writing twice in the last eight weeks. Reconciliation has failed over and over. I don't often loose it over this holiday, but this year is really tough. _________________ KK4NTP

At least he wrote you. One of my kids must think I died 15 years ago. Real bummer, as there's no reason for the disconnect. I keep trying, but no response. _________________ More Hot Lighting Products are here!

That's gotta hurt.
Give him a Father's Day letter putting your love for him in writing, and say you'll be there for him if he ever gets his shit together. Then feel good about yourself and move on; it's not your fault. |

That does suck...but you need to move on. My dad left when I was four.
So on Father's Day I always call my mom and wish her a Happy Father's Day.

My oldest Son is a drug addict and I'll be damned if I am going to let his antics interfere with today. I know he won't call or even come by to say hello. That's alright. I know that he has better things to do. You can ot help those that do not want to be. _________________ Never drive faster than your Angel can fly

Sorry about that! It's got to be rough to have a Dad like that.
I've seen it written by an unknown author.....
"At some point we've got to stop wishing we had a better yesterday and put our efforts into making a better tomorrow".
Sounds like you are on the right track from what I glean from your writing!
On the bright side, You now know what kind of a father NOT to be when that time rolls around for you. |

Fucking classic. I love it.
That's too bad though for all who have posted. My dad was an addict as well. He died 17 years ago, at 50 from complications of his drug habit. He was a loving man and a good dad. He hid his addiction until the very end. We had a good relationship though, so I guess I was lucky. |

Fathers day is a day invented by the purveyors of greetings cards as another excuse to goad us lesser mortals into parting with our cash.
I don't see why we have to 'set aside' just one day a year to have a relationship with our parents, be it mothers day or fathers day, when actually, we should be talking a hell of a lot more than that
I hate fathers day, not for the sentiment of talking to my dad, no, but for the brash commercialisation for a day thats only been around for 100 years or so in practice and has been rammed down our throats as a day between Easter and (insert next holiday here)
I talk to my folks once a week or fortnight and never miss telling them that I love them. What has a hallmark card once a year got on top of that?
I feel really sorry for you guys that don't have a great relationship with your dad. My partner is in the same boat with her dad and it's never been anything other than difficult. Sometimes, you really are best just to cut your losses and run, forget whats been and gone and just look at the good stuff thats coming your way _________________ The opinion of the author as expressed does not always reflect that of the author nor does he extend any apologies or assume any liability or responsibility for its content or lack thereof or for any lack of humour of the reader of any content at all, anywhere, ever. After reading this, I guess my dad's not all that fucked up after all. He's just old and senile but I don't think he means anybody any harm.
This site always makes me feel better about my personal life. |

So true!! A great perspective to take
Tram hit on something that is very true here. When the parents fail we must rely upon the village to take up the slack. _________________ always seeking a better way

"it takes a village" was a buncha feel good crap made up to shift responsibility of parents actions or lack of actions and responsibility upon a general public.
a poor attempt to make it all cute and justify defective social programs run by people who don't care.
personal responsibility is what it takes,
for yourself and what you make.
sorry about your dad shiningstar76, but it also looks like you don't need him to be the best you can be. _________________ Frank
