How about one like this....Easy conversion and retain some functionality. These are done in Mexico all the time at the rental car companies...

This is for sale in the Classifieds. This is the look that I want. I want to go with a one piece narrow eye front end also. I use it as a Offroad Car only.

If it is an off-road only car I would just ditch the entire pan and body. Buy the fiberglass parts and call it good. _________________ “It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.”

It was an option on the mexican bugs. |

There's a guy here on the samba that lives in Mexico and sells genuine VW parts to the states. I forgot his name, but if you search (probably in the late model bug forum) you should find his info.
One idea would be to find a wrecked one with a good top down there, and go on vacation with a sawzall. Bring back the roof clip and once it's here figure out how to get it in your car.
A shop local to me has a car that looks identical to that one, bright red, top that slides back (its power, not sure if all were). he loves it. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"
