Summer is almost over, any new Empi Sportster pics? My Empi started up this weekend, need new brake cylinders all around. Can't wait to run it again.

I have been doing some radical things to mine.
Link
Took all fenders off
Added Hearse tail lights and 2 3/4 x 3/4 spikes in fender holes
Just in case I want to put them back on.
2 3/4 x 3/4 spikes in front fender holes
Tilt front winshield
Disk brake conversion with 2 1/2 drop
Cheers

Found this buggy in a barn 15 years ago, didn't know what it was until this year. Got married, put it back in a barn for 14 years. Got divorced, got it back out of the barn again this past spring, spruced it up a bit and I'm thrilled to be driving it all over the place! It was worth the wait.

Hello Bill W,
It kinda looks like a sportster, the front fenders- some metal is missing connecting front hood to fender, round front looks o.g.
The rear fender, gusset to to side missing.
Do you have anymore details? History? Come on spill the beans!

Hello Sandhopper,
That I am aware, the front windshield was a "buggy" style,
If you can get your hand on a "empi sportster" build book you will see that they were the common windshield.
Do you have any pics?

I do have the glass that was there , but it is cracked
the frame is aluminum and also cracked , it is on a hinge but the sides will not let it lay down. I think it maybe easyer to start all over with that part
It would be great if the site that was doing a new kit was still around sure would be a lot less fab work , but I guess that is part of the project fun

Hey Tony, well this is what we know about it... my wife's uncle Don bought it in 1969-70 he built the 1835 that is still in it. it also has Reduction gear Boxes from a bus. our plans are to replace the flywheel, relocate the battery, i already swapped out the seats. i may give it a desert camo paint job... then enjoy some buggy rides up and down the many dry wash beds we have in southern AZ, maybe climb a hill or two. |

Its not really a sportster but clos. Hand built in California in the early/mid 70's by my grandpas brother. Has been passed down to my dad and then to me. 66 Mustang seats, 1500 SP with 1600 jugs and pistons, nothing fancy but a piece of family history that means something to me. My grandpas brother passed on years ago, before I got hold of it and could ask him all the questions I would have wanted to. The story is that there were several of his buddies and him, and they would all gang up and build one then move on to the next guys garage and build another. Let me know what you all think, I would love to hear your input. And sorry if the pictures are sideways, I'm not sure why that is. Oh, and it has a "C" shaped removable top, and removable half doors too. |
