I saw this on another samba thread on defrost tube replacement on a body off project. Here's my solution for body on. Aircraft SCAT vent tubing, 1 1/4 ID by 2 foot long. Purchased from Aircraft Spruce, $28 total including shipping. Recommend remove hood and hinges, small hands, patience, watch out for carpet nails. WW replacement is 27 inches long, but two feet seems to work OK. It's sold by the foot and easily cut, so you could go longer to get more compression out of the spring. Currently it's friction/gravity fit, but may add some type of sealant. I was dreading this project but was easier than I thought.
