|
|
Temporarily I’m running a JX pump on my AHU. With the pump rotated to the max advanced position the engine idles well and responses quickly.
I read the related postings describing the consequence of too much timing advancement and piston damage. I’m also aware of the snapping pump shaft legend.
I hope to get find advice on the following question
1.Has anyone long term experience and recommendation on the JX /AHU timing?
2.Is there an experimental method to advance a diesel pump?
(Like on a gasoline engines where ignition timing is set as advanced as possible without audible pre ignition pinging) _________________ 82 orange Diesel Westy

Anything is faster than a stock 1.6 Diesel even a (T)DI with a JX pump.
Thanks for the link _________________ 82 orange Diesel Westy

The fact that you have it idling with the jx pump should slightly lessen the need for a nomex suit
Are you using the JX pump head? I'm amazed it can crack the Tdi injectors. The idi pump might not have enough stock dynamic advance for the Tdi too. Can be modified tho but requires major pump surgery. Go for a land rover pump if possible, they are reasonably easy to fit for mtdi. _________________ Gone but not forgotten - 1991 Carat - AAZ transmogriffied to mTDi.

Nope, the JX pump just won't do it, not without major mods, TDI head and camplate for starters. Cummins 4BT pumps like I use for my (brand new) mTDI pumps work very well. Gotta know what to do inside to get em right though. |

I tried different setting and now I have the JX pump running pretty nice for a temporary setup.
0.9 stroke @ TDC produced too much smoke. It was very hard to start. I have driven 50 miles around town with a setting of 1.1mm and it drives pretty nice. I still have the stock exhaust with no turbo so the Westy is pretty slow but at least it is back on the road. 65 MPH is top speed. The Turbo and a proper MTDI are my next projects _________________ 82 orange Diesel Westy
