|
|
Just installed EMPI distributor with performance wires, had installed dual carb kit a year ago and finally got around to replacing the distributor to get rid of the vacum advanced, now thear will not start, just keeps turning over flooding the motor
The Car is a 68 Beetle with a 1600cc dual port
Help would greatly be appreciated, first time restoring a classic bug, having a blast doing it even though tough
Thank You |

Have you check to see if you're getting spark at the points?
Pop off the distributor cap, turn the ignition to "ON", and open the points contact, if you see a spark jolt, you have power going to the distributor.
Is the points gapped properly?
Do you have the condensor wire (typically green) going to the negative side of the coil (marked as "1")? _________________ Jim Kikuchi

Are you sure you have the ignition wires on correctly? The location of #1 is different.

havent checked to see if there is a spark, only one working on it so i would need a second pair of hand which will have to be another time, and i havent checked the cap yet to see where one is, which i will need to do that, i apreciated the replies and will let you know of the results in a couple of day

You don't need a second set of hands to check for spark. You can use a popsickle stick or etc to move the points apart as suggesest above . I prefer to rotate the engine by turning the generator nut. _________________ Roads Scholar &
