Not in a rush to sell the Monster at all. So I ordered up some more jets for the carbs. .60 and .65 idles and 1.35 for mains. I'm running .70 idles now and while it runs great, fuel economy has really suffered. I'm thinking I went a little fat with those .70's.
I also have to decide what to do about the windshield seal. I don't want to go through this winter with the windshield leaking. Ticks me off the seal has shrunk so much it's pulling away from the painted surface in a few places.
I know there are threads, I've read them all.....anyone have any recent experience with cal-look seals? I've heard WCM or ISP are the two best seals out there right now. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

c1p.com is a good place. They are sending me a new windshield seal under warranty. Pretty cool!
Hopefully this one will last longer than a 9 months. I'll post up pictures when it arrives. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

C1P sent me a new windshield seal which came directly from WCM. It's the same seal I installed 9-10 months ago. Since it was free, I went ahead and took the 20 minutes to cut out the old, clean and install the new. Popped right in and looks great. But I can tell it'll do the same thing another 9 months from now.
There just isn't enough rubber around the outside to keep a good seal along the body of the car. This also isn't the molded corner seal. So as much as I tried to "pull" a little on the straight sections to keep the corners from pulling tight, the bottom corners are still kinda thin. Sucks, but for now, it's back to 100%.
I also got the 1776 all installed and purring like a kitten. I had to pull the fan housing back off due to an oil leak from the pump cover. Blah. It's not flat anymore. The 1776 was full flow with oil filter on the Puma, and now isn't. I just swapped pump covers from the 2275 to the 1776. They both have the same oil pumps. But the 2275 had a shaved down oil pump cover to fit behind the fan housing. It's always leaked right there a little anyway. But taking the cover off and then installing it on the 1776 really let it "taco" a bit too much. So I ordered up a flat cast cover. Should do the trick.
Sorry, I forgot my camera at home. I'll post up pictures tonight hopefully.
Anyone try the ISP molded corner windshield seal yet? _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

I know it's only been a year, but I was happy when I pulled the windshield out to find nice clean, smooth paint still. Everything still looked perfect.

Not much to show in this picture. This is the old seal with the new one sitting on the floor.

The new ISP windshield seal works prime time supa fine!
I've only had it on the car for under two months (they've been out that long), but it looks and seals great. Nice and soft looking too.
Also: I'm more of a low-n-slow character, but holy shitballs, this squareback is hot! _________________ 1967 Squareback |

That's good feedback, thanks! I couldn't pass up a free warranty replacement for the WCM seal and it only took about 20 minutes to cut out the old seal and install the new one. So not a big deal. It looks great...for now. But I can tell another summer will see it shrink up like the last seal did. Sucks to think it, but I'll be replacing the seal again a year from now. I should order up an ISP seal just to have at the ready. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

Got the new oil pump cover today. I did some research on these and found some really good write ups on thesamba. Turns out pretty much no oil pump cover is 100% flat. So I followed some advice and grabbed a piece of glass so I could wet sand the covers sealing surface flat. Slow process, took about 15 mintues. But I'm glad I did it. Perfectly flat now. And that was the new cover.
The old cover was like a pota chip, it rocked back and forth on the glass. No wonder it leaked.
Didn't fire it back up tonight, I'll finish up stuff tomorrow. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

Driving impressions:
The 1776 has a lot more umph than I would have thought. Since I drive the Monster daily, I pretty much just drive it like a car. So the day-to-day driving isn't different at all. The 1776 was spin ballanced so it's crazy smooth compared to the 2275 and revs much quicker/freeier. It actually makes something like the Monster easier to drive.
New windshield seal installed, drove it around all weekend. Uses way LESS gas than the 2275 which is cool. Washed it yesterday, cleans up nice. Now to re-post for sale and time to get aggressive with the price now that it's all back to 100%.

It's funny. Seems like while most of us go low, there is always that one guy with a monster. Reminds me of that MK5 on VW Vortex. Pretty awesome! |

Sorry to bring back an old thread but this is badass and I wanted to know how it's held up over the last couple years? I have a Fastback that i'm really thinking of doing the same thing to it. _________________ 1971 Squareback, fully bagged, 1776.
