Any recommendations? We're thinking of going down to Ocean Shores or Long Beach next weekend for a few days. We're looking for a fairly quiet clean place near the beach, or on the beach preferably. We're not adverse to RV parks if the facilities are clean.
I've searched the forum here and the web in general but haven't found many suggestions.
Thanks!

We've camped at Cape Dissapointment just South of Long Beach. It is right on the beach and as far as State parks go, it is very nice. We were there in January and it wasnt very crowded. I'm guessing it is packed in the summer but worth looking into.

Yeah, I looked at the State parks. Of course every single spot is already reserved! I hate the reservations system - you have to plan your whole summer months in advance and that's just not feasible for us.
Anyway, I'm hoping someone can suggest a nice little-known campground or secret spot!
We will drive to the area regardless and take our chances. The nice thing about a Westy!

I think they all leave some sites open for drive ins. First come first served.

I actually live like 20 min from Ocean Shores. I'll see what I can find out if anything.

You might check out La Push. The RV campground is right on the beach. I haven't actually camped there though. We took our tents about 1/2 km down the beach and made camp amongst the driftwood logs. The surf can be quite good there.

Hey Dave,

Camp in La Push. It's free, your on the sand, you'll likely be all by yourself. But there are no plug ins, and I know you like electricity. When are you going? Here's a pic

Hobuck Beach resort
http://www.hobuckbeachresort.com/
I spent about 7 days there last summer. Surfing eating and hanging. Great place. The facilities were very clean.

Ocean shores is a bit more crowded. Depending where you are coming from, if you start at the southern end of washington I would head towards Kalaloch campsite. There are quite a few camping spots that overlook the beach. If this is full, keep heading north and go to La Push or Hobuck.

I have visited all three and enjoyed them all. Kalaloch is number 1 though. There are small stores at all three campsites with fire wood, etc. Kalaloch is not "dry" so you can buy beer too. Hobuck is on the Makah reservation and is dry. Don't go to neah bay (hobuck) this week because it is the canoe jorney and will be packed. 10,000 people are canoeing/ driving to eat and party all over the reservation.

good luck and cheers!

A spot on the Strait on the way to La Push is Salt Creek Camprground, west of Port Angeles. The best sites are on the headland above the tide pools - also has a huge lawn area for tents/RVs if the headland is full. There are trails down to the tide pools. It's a county campground so first come first served.

My favorite, Pacific beach, you can't have a fire at your camp, but you can on the beach. We pack our stuff out onto the beach and play on the beach all day, or drive south to Ocean Shores for an ice cream and a drive on the beach. The town of Pacific beach is pretty small, so come prepared with a full tank of gas and anything you don't want to pay resort prices for.
I just camped a few weeks ago at Cape Disappointment, It was really nice as far as the huge structured sites go. My cousin had a great time sail boarding, the gestapo was nice if respected, the early morning (5AM) walks I had with my dog were full of interpretive trails, informational kiosks, artsy displays, and 8AM espresso at the store on site.. We camped from Wednesday to Sunday night, and were amazed at the difference between weekday and weekend. I would recommend weekday if you can.. Long Beach had all of it's beach access closed off while we were there, and we were forced to drive about 30 Miles North to drive on the beach. I don't know why, but I like to drive on the beach once a year or so and set up day camp and enjoy it..

Cold water surfing? I dunno. I dipped my toes in the water in BC and it's freezing in comparison to So Cal waters, lol.

La Push was a bust. I couldn't find Shorepig's spot - if it exists at all! Evil or Very Mad
(Just kidding)
Anyway, I'll post more about the whole trip later.
