Looks like this was inspired by the Vanagon Westy. I wonder how much they want for one, probably big $$$$

You can buy a Sienna in AWD and have them convert it:
http://www.gtrv.com/
For some reason I prefer my VW Westy, but this may be just the ticket for someone. _________________ 4 speed 88 Westy |

I contacted them last year and this is what they said about cost:
"Hi David
It depends on what you want done
A full conversion on a Sienna costs $23,500
If you just want the top, that is $6000
With the bunk, it is $650 more
If the color is other than white, the peintina costs $650 more
Etc., etc
So - let me know wha tyouw ant and i'll price it out for you.
Thanks for your interest.

It would be a good alternative for a Eurovan but not for a 2WD vanagon or syncro in my opinion. Very limited clearance. It's nice to see another camper option though... |

Pluse $30k for the van would be about $55k in total. If I had 55k for a campervan I would opt for a Syncro Westy. _________________ 4 speed 88 Westy |

Check out the dual sliding doors on the rear closet. Looks like the mod I did for my Westy. Very smart of them, if I do say so myself. |

That's the nicest van conversion I've seen... but I've been partial to Westys for years so I'm biased. What it looks like it's lacking to me is ground clearance and head room. I like the Toyota Sienna as a big passenger car, but the Vanagon, Eurovan, and previous generations of VW vans are light trucks. Still, I think it's cool that after 50 years of Westphalias some of the converters are realizing what an awesome layout they are. _________________ 1988 Wolfsburg Edition, 2001 Subaru EJ251 |

If you are wondering about the inspiration from the www.gtrv.com folks, here it is, from this page. (Imitation is the most sincere flattery, and all that!)

Standard Plans
We offer several standard plans. The Westy and the Weekender are the most popular.
* Westy - The Westy is the ultimate multi-use vehicle. It's a garageable daily-driver with the added benefit of being an always-ready-to-go class B RV that sleeps 4. It's most commonly converted on the Ford E-Series, but available on any chassis.
* Weekender - If you prefer a unit with less equipment, our pop-top Weekender with 4 captains chairs, a pull out bench-bed in the back and a bunk in the top, will have you traveling and sleeping in comfort. _________________ '86 Westy, 2.5 Subaru power

I really like to electric fan in the pop up.
I saw a Honda Element yesterday with a pop top. Had ECAMPER written on the pop-top exactly where Westfalia should be on a Vanagon. I've always liked the Element, but the limited space always talks me out of it.
Found the website of the people who do the conversions...

The fan/light combination would be great if you could retrofit it in the westy skylight. I wonder if they would divulge the source for it. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

I'm liking that roof fan too.
That is indeed a nice conversion (not liking the rear seat cut-out though)... except the fridge can't be opened while you're lying in bed.
While the Sienna is nice, the original Westy has more character. _________________ ~Kamz

The Element poptop has been discussed a few times on here. I have an Element (5-speed by the way) and love it, but as long as I have the Westy it would be redundant to do the Ursa Minor conversion. Neat video of how the ECamper works.

re the roof fan/light hatch, check out some big Marine Chandlerys. There is (or used to b) a solar fan that fitted on hatches. They were not very big but they did move the air.
I just so don't like the long nose. Such a waste of space!!! _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

That tent on top of the Honda reminds me of the forerunner for VW camping vans. I have a picture in a VW calender of a Bug with a platform on top that flips open and becomes a 2 or 3 person tent and you get up by a ladder. It was real. Guess then the bus was next as there is one of those in the calender with either a surf board sticking out the roof or a sailboat out the back.
It's interesting to see our fore 'fathers'. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...
