As I said in those PMs we traded the other day, the new Silver Beige steering wheels have become scarce - you still see Ivory ones but that was not a color that VW actually used for steering wheels in the 1960s. I had been contemplating replacing the steering wheel in my 62 a few months ago and found that the proper Silver Beige color was showing to be sold out or out of stock everywhere I looked... Except Wolfsburg West:

Cool. I searched their site and could not find that. Maybe I'll stick with grey. Some of their matching knobs though look dark grey and some look the grey of the steering wheel. Don't know why that is? |

Probably just photographic variation. I see that WW is currently out of the Silver Beige ashtray/headlight knob in Silver Beige. I had been running one of theirs but... I recently went to turn on my headlights and the knob fell apart (this car is not garaged so I'm sure temperature extremes contributed to this demise)
Here's that same knob before it broke, all these are WW Silver Beige knobs (they are supposed to be Ivory in 62 but I prefer the gray)- this is with sun and flash - you can see how the various knobs look in and out of the sunlight. The steering wheel I painted many years ago with Silver Beige paint.
And a wide shot:

Thank you so much, glutamodo! Your a good guy. Really appreciate all your help.
Do you recall if the '66 knobs will fit on a '67? Headlights and Window washer? WW doesn't mention it. But I think they only mean to say what is stock. I'm pretty sure someone said they did on another thread we were on. I just can't remember off the top of my head.
I noticed WW was out of that one knob too. I searched the forum and there are a few used ones for sale. That don't look to bad. SO I think I can put together a complete set of dash components in grey between WW and here. I just have a hard time visualizing the grey and the ivory in a black car with an off white interior. I kind of think the grey will look better. But the ivory looks pretty sweet too. I know grey is more stock. But this is on my '67 so neither will be stock anyway. Just trying to think of the best color combinations.
What color is your car? It matches those grey knobs and wheel really nicely. Pearl white? Seems to light to be Fontana. |

The switches/knobs have the same size threads up through 1967.
It's Pearl White, 1962. There's more photos (exterior) in my Gallery...

That is a sweet ride dude! That's pretty much what I was looking for when I was looking. But just couldn't find it. I missed two by one day each. A white '66 and a sea sand '66. Both were cherry. But like I said, I missed them by a day. Owners had taken offers just hours before I arrived on the scene. Maybe my next one will be beige with some sort of ragtop or sunroof. Really beautiful car. I think I'll be happy with my black '67 sunroof. Every car I've owned over the last couple decades has been black. lol! I just can't seem to break away from it. But I sure would like a car that looks like yours. Nice ride man. Nice ride. |

Now I'm looking for a Zenith Blue L639 (0. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Rustoleum Moss Green is similar to Velvet Green. VG has a tad more blue in it I'd say. It only comes in satin as far as I know though.

It depends, busses were a different sea blue. If you have a bug, rustoleum night gloss tide is close, however it is discontinued. If you have an Oreilys auto parts, certain stores sell paint. They can scan and match you paint with a single stage paint fairly cheap . You can get a cheap sprayer at Harbor freight, you'll have to find a compressor. The wheels are night gloss tide the bug is an old repaint
The grill where the tach is, is the Oreilys match

Here's my '66 in Ruby Red with rims in Rustoleum Regal Red and Krylon Super Maxx Gloss Ivory. (I know this combo isn't correct for a '66; I just like it better than the original black and white.)
The Krylon Super Maxx is really nice -- easy to use and builds up to a finish that feels like a piece of enameled cookware or something. The Rustoleum is average. (To be fair, Regal Red is also available in Rustoleum's "Professional" spray line, which I've used before in other colors and really liked, but I couldn't find it for this project.)
