Wondering if someone can help here.

I am rebuilding (just for fun) a 71 Dual relief case. I believe it was one of the first dual relief cases, as it is a Single port dual relief.

Now, when I pulled out the oil pressure relief valve ( the one with the long spring), the valve does not have a cutaway groove in it. The valve looks exactly like the other one.

Do you think that a PO put the wrong valve in, or did Vw cut the groove in the valve later?

I like to run all German parts, so I don't want to buy a new valve if possible.

be very cautious about what the po has done , I had to pull my motor because the po put a exhaust valve into a intake valve seat ...... u never know what people are thinking when they do crappy work .......good luck ......
