|
|
I have tried several times to post photos of this car in this post. I have added them to the Gallery.
Anyway 1958 all original beetle approx 20,000 miles seams fairly complete original everything, engine, interior etc. No rust! What would you ask for a car in this condition?
It's currently for sale at a local antique car showroom, There asking price 15k ???
LMK your thoughts...

Here ya go Peter....
In my opinion this looks like a very nice original car. I love the fact that the paint has just a little fade and that the wheels are still the correct color. The interior looks completly correct and original, as does the motor. The hubcaps may be german, but more than likly were replaced somtime in the cars life, due to the fact that they dont have the painted emblems on them. Some of the other things I noticed are the 58/59 grey wire cover and trunk liner, both in awesome condition. The bumpers look original and very straight as well.
I would still have to have some documentation and the history on the car before I would even think of dropping 15k on it. But just from the pics I would say it looks legit to me. If it all pans out and turns out to be legit, offer them $12.5 cash and see if they bite.
Its kinda hard to tell, but that Hazet looks like its a repop.
Btw, not only are 58/59's my favorite years, but Coral Red is one of my favorite colors as well. If I had the chance to get this car, it would be real tough for me to pass it up. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Hey Peter, glad you posted pics of this 58! Did you find out if the grey trunkliner is what was used when new, or if they were offered in both grey and black... _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

If it were a 50 3fold or an early oval i could justify the extra cheese but not for that.. just my 2c.. If that car is truly og it is in very nice shape.. |

10K is a fair price, 6K wouldn't touch it, and Ovals are overrated... _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

That is very intersesting to me. I know that this is your opinion, and Im not slamming you, but it costs way more than 6 grand to restore an early big window. There are a bunch of 2 year only parts that are becoming difficult to find. Also, have you seen some of the peice of shits out there that people are paying 6 grand for?
For me, I would take this low millage all original 58 over a fully restored one any day of the week.

Question is, could you find a 53/54 in this exact condition for 10K? _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

Well, I am guessing somethings happened over 52 years even to an all original car like this one. I can see all original fenders, pans, heater channels, original paint on the interior, trunk and engine compartment. It even has yellow markings in the trunk area from the inspectors when it was built.
A few changes I noticed were hubcaps, running boards, although they look old. Passenger mirror, and the rear bumper is not the original. Other than that I can't see any other big changes.
It's had it's fenders and inner wheel wells repainted, all the other exterior paint is OG.
The pans would need the POR treatment ASAP. Some surface rust..
So your all saying 10K? But this place wants a piece of the action....
I was told so far it was from a collection of antique cars, and the guy was thinning out his collection.
Does anyone know about the different color wiring covers offered back then. My car has it's original wiring cover and it's black in a black car. This car has a Gray one?

Apparently "Gray" is the original, and Black ones were replacements...I think? Kinda like the gas tanks, Gray versus Black. _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

I put money on it being an old resto. Shouldn't the door hinge screw plugs be clear, and the fender beading be body colored? I'm no expert--but I don't think it's an original. More detailed pics are needed such as under the car, the fender wells, etc. Let's see the headliner? _________________ '62 VW Bug Sedan (Ruby Red)

No, the door hinge screw plugs should be the black rubber ones. The clear ones came out in 62. The fender beading is the correct black also. Colored beeding and running board mats didnt come out til 62.
I do agree though I would love to see more detailed pics also. If it has original running boards then the mats will not have the ribbs all the way to both ends. They will stop short and smooth out. There is only one place that repops those.... http://www.bbt4vw.com/indexeng.htm , and if it indeed an older resto then it will for sure not have the correct ones on it. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Yep, 58/59 trunk mats and wire covers were grey. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Im tired of people expecting everything for nothing. If there were two of them sittng at every used car lot than no it may not be worth the asking price. As it sits Id drop 15k for it any day of the week. Its a clean, solid classic that will last you a lifetime, lets put that into perspective. |

I find it interesting that a guy who has an avatar that depicts a slammed beetle with a roofrack loaded down with vintage coolers uses terms like Played Out!! |

Wow, thats a very nice 58. Bugs like that are few and far between. Keep in mind that you cant restore an early small window bug to the originality that this one has. Most restored cars will have way more into them than the asking price of this one, and they wont be half as original or as nice, and forget about how well they wont drive. This bug is a dream in every way. To the true educated enthusiast, its worth every penny. |
