well.. my mind is pretty much made up but for fun I thought I would ask... here is a van I was thinking about buying for its cool camper interior... but it has some body damage on the nose and passenger door that oddly does not affect the way the door closes at all... just curious what a ballpark estimate would be to fix such damage... 1k.. 2k, 3k.... or should this van just be parted out....

not sure about the cost but if you can get it for cheap, buy it and drive the heck out of it.

Visually impaired drivers should not get behind the wheel of a Vanagon.

Shoot, pick your impariment (DUI, texting, Adult onset ADD), someone was parking with the touch method.

That looks like an expensive set of crunches.

Judging from the estimate I got for my door dent....I would say you have maybe 2k in repair work. I agree with the other poster if it is cheap buy it and drive the hell out of it.

how much was it to fix your door?... my initial thought was to grind out the rust.. por 15 it, stick a bra on the front and drive it... maybe get the center of the door flattened out but meh... seems crazy the more I think about it... there are many fish in the sea..

I think the thing to note is that its perfectly operable the way it is, just ugly, kinda like the majority of the human race. Wink

x2. Buy cheap, clean up the corner/light, add a bra & start LIVIN!

Many of us own the same van...mine is dinged at the rear wheel well. I drive it & LOVE IT!
It'll be after the kids are out of college before I really start to worry too much about esthetics...

Yup, some of the ugliest cars I've seen were also the most reliable and just refused to die.

To the OP:

The thing thing to be concerned about here is what the rest of the van looks like, is it rusty? Full of dead mice? etc.

The rest is great... Awesome ASI riviera interior, full size 3 way fridge, propane forced air heater, awesome cabinets, great upholstry, pop top with two beds... No rust... I am now leaning more toward buying it and hiding damage with the bra.... Hmmmm... The interior is way more useful and robust than a west...

Buy it. Fix any areas starting to rust due to the damage. Put a bra on it and enjoy the heck out of it. Keep it alive. Very Happy

Year? Miles?
My guess:
...it's an '85 (obviously: tan interior) w/175k on the ticker, heads rebuilt at 90k. Yours for an easy 4 grand, but you'll talk 'em down to $3200...

Right?

Of course; you didn't mention the engine... Rolling Eyes Still, for $1k & clean it's a done deal. GET IT!

(PS: It's an 85 though, right?)
