Hi guys.
Just a quick question for ya.
I have just fitted a 2 inch narrowed beam to my bug and have a set of eagle 520 rims that i want to use .
My question is, is it possible to narrow these wheels by a couple of inches so i can get my steering to have the same turning circle,and also as i think it would look kinda cool also.
Is it a big job and would it be expensive.

With the right amount of MONEY.. anything can be done.. finding a machine shop in your area that will do the job for you will be the though part.. keep in mind that the section you plan to narrow should be the same diameter on both ends, or else you will not be able to mate the two sections back together

To narrow a rim is easier than widening just due to the simple fact of less machining and welding. The only problems I have had is the quality of the metal cast vs. forged. Forged is like welding billet it has less impurities and is stronger.
But like the post above its all about the money. I like the Weldcraft sight they say they Tig weld the wheels but the welds look more like they were welded with a spool gun. |

However, not all wheels can be narrowed. If the drop center has a taper to it, you can't narrow it.

Thanks for all the input guys .
1st thing i will do is get the tyres off and look for a taper.
Also i was wondering what 4 lug alloy rims were the lightest.
Not sure what these eagle 520's weigh. |

You can narrow a mismatch and a taper rim.. You just need to know what your doing....

| Does anyone know of a shop on the east coast capable of narrowing an aluminum alloy wheel? I would like to have a Porsche 19"x8" or 18"x8" alloy narrowed to 7" for the front of my germanlook dub. |

I'd narrow them to 5-6" to make them fit/lower/turn/not rub on the front.

Ditto, and how narrow can you go with those 17" 205mm BRM's? Does anyone make 17x5" tires... for cars?

Weldcraft is a Top Notch Company, I live in the area and have seen many a Custom Modified of various type Wheels done by them. Everyone has had Great comments about there Quality Work.
I'm in the process of having a set of wheels offset changed by them.
As mentioned, with the $$$ about anything can be done. |

My fenders are steel that have been widened 1" and I have a 2" narrow beam. My last set of wheels were 18x8" front and 9.5" rear. The fronts were a little tight regarding full turn. Those wheels were put on my wife's widebody speedster replica which has since been sold.
A 18" x7" front would be perfect. The narrowest late model 18" Porsche alloy is 7.5" for the Boxster which I may go with. The wheel I actually prefer comes in 19x8" front and 9.5" rear. |

The Mahle 1.8 wheel from a 914 is the lightest that i have weighed.
the 520s should weight in at about 18-19 lbs
