Very interesting....

In terms of fluid flow, it's a better solution than the bolt-on sumps that hang off the bottom of the case.

I think the chances of that working successfully are much less than failure.... especially on an old abused case. So many factors here that would make it not worth the purchase unless it were dirt cheap.
Theoretically it seems like a great idea and solution for the low hanging external sumps on a lowered car but I wouldn't risk the buy it now price for the small chance it may work well.

Taking another look at it, it appears to be stock bore. Why anyone would try this on a stock engine baffles me.... it was probably a failed experiment in someones garage.

this would be perfect in my car, i would get the added oil volume as a bolt below sump, without dropping my ground clearence.

It looks to me that the hole pattern on the sump pieces does not match the case halfs.

if you can't manage to seal that sump, you are doomed anyway when your stock sump plate falls off... Most vw folks can't manage to have a clean, dry engine....they think all vw's leak...lazy folks... Wink

Wouldn't that be great in a car? All that really nice hot air blowing straight down over your new fancy sump?

And Bugin.... I take offense to your comment concerning oil leaks. I'm keeping the cat litter companies in business. It's coming apart this winter.

I don't get it, how do those things bolt on? From the inside? That is pretty unique to say the least.

I'm thinking this is a mod for light air craft use.

Reminds me of the time I found a large cookie sheet while at a yard sale with my wife.

She says - That won't even fit in our oven.

I respond - It ain't for cookies baby.

I once built a leak free engine, ever since most of my engines leak
about 1-2 cups between oil changes.

Cookie sheet + kitty litter = peace at home

I tried that before. The problem is when you turn sharply all the oil sloshes to one side or another and you lose oil pressure.

Certainly looks pretty interesting though. It looks like the case helves were cast like that ? Im assuming it's not a homebuilt addition ?

No. The case halfs are milled on the sides and drilled for the bolt holes.

So which side do the nuts and washers go? How do your torque it up?
