Please help me determine what to do. Tank is mounted in proper location, filler tube protrudes at what appears to be an odd angle and rubs against filler in tank. Should I cut off the portion of the filler tube below the "bump"? or does this look normal? (I have a new hose and seals but wanted advice before I continued.)

(The crap on the filler tube is silicone which I will remove before I put the hose hose and seals on)

This is where the filler tube sits...

Another angle.

Thank you.

The filler neck (tube) should have a grommet at the top that seats in the hole in the body and makes a water tight seal when turn into place and just the right angle to mate with the tank tube. That looks about the same in the pic as my 72 SB, about a 1/4" gap between the tube and tank inlet. Its tight, with the cap on, the fuel door just closes without touching the cap. Maybe you can nudge the tank over a bit to stop the tube from hitting the inlet, I wouldn't cut it. Be sure you have the rubber seals inside the hose, they look like 1/2" wise rubber bands and go under the clamp area (I see you stated this). Use all new hoses and you will eliminate 99% of odors, especially the overflow ones with the molded elbows, they rot after 40 years and vapor passes right through them.
