After sanding down the black paint of my 57 oval it seems that the original color was Coral Red. While some may like the color I am so-so about it. Yet it is not a bad color. Should I keep it close to "original" according to possibly its birth certificate.

By the way the current upholstery is red. Would be open to redo it anyway.

Thoughts?

IMO, I think you should go for an original VW color for the model year. But it is your car, and its just paint.

order the BC if it states the color restore to the BC specs. If no color specified or no BC available go with color for the year or a year earlier.

I am going thru the same dilemma -- my 57 rag top was Agave Green from the factory. I love it, but I love a nice restored black car even more, especially on beetles. That green is a lot more forgiving to paint -- meaning it shows a lot fewer blemishes, chips, and doesn't highlight mediocre body work. So I might go with it but we'll see.

Hahaha that is the dilemma. I always did like that Salmon like color. But there are other colors to choose from as well. Hmmm

^^ That is a beauty. Yes it looks like a hard color to get right and that is what I am afraid of. If it comes out "wrong" then it has a big tendency to look bad.
