Shouldn't a 1960 convertible that was originally blue ...... be Slate Blue L361?

Haven't posted on this thread in a long time. We've had the car for three years now since the restoration was finished and haven't put much more than 5k mils on it, so finally most of the "bugs" have been worked out and the car has become pretty reliable and fun to drive. The last big hitch was the horn. Somehow we had lost all the horn assembly pieces and finding them was near impossible until recently when a friend came across a 60 sedan and gave me the pieces. I had no clue how to install it but came across an excellent post here on the Samba with pictures and so now the horn is working.

How did you get commercial YOM plates registered onto a passenger vehicle? Or are they just for decoration?

Yeah, when using YOM plates the DMV doesn't care that in their past life they were once registered as commercial only plates. The only thing they care about now a days is that they are clear, and like coolrydes said, that you have the correct year sticker on them.

I got those at a garage sale for $10 so could care less if they were commercial or not. DMV. Could care less like the others said. I could ans likely will shift them over to a double cab I am doing when the time comes as it is also a 60, but for now they stay on the bug.

DMV DOES care about the sequence (commercial vs. passenger) .... I am very surprised that you were able to register those commercial plates to a passenger vehicle. Usually they reject applications for YOM when the sequence of the plates does not match the vehicle registration. This is based on my personal experience with California YOM as well as friends experiences.

There is a reason why NICE commercial 1947 California plates command $1000+ per matched set ........ while passenger 1947's only get $400-$600 per set. The reason is because DMV wont accept passenger plates on commercial vehicles. If DMV would let people register passenger 1947's on their commercial 1947 vehicles.... Then the commercial plates would not be priced DOUBLE. Think about it.

Anyways....very nice convertible. I hope my Slate Blue 1960 vert looks as nice as yours when it is finished!!!

Hey there, I've been looking for a forum just like this. This will be a major help, Thank you so much.
So here are some photos of my 60 Vert. I've only had her for a couple of months. I haven't really done much but acquire parts and still looking for more.
The 2nd and 3rd photo show the VIN and body numbers, From what I gather production date is March of 1960 and she has Ice pick door handles any ideas?
Also, I would like to join the registry, Thank you!

does anyone know if the convertible top frame assembly for 58-60 has a part number? On the top frame assembly I found a number stamped in my frame and was wondering if I could verify it is the right top for my 60 Vert. The number is 150 53 00 29.

If that's stamped on the bolt on linkage part that helps to actuate the front part of the top then it is a part number for that. It's a removable part

Hi. We're about to weld the NOS chassis strengtheners to the new heater channels for the vert ( '60 model ). The OG loom runs through the strengthener, within a 25mm diameter tube, similar to the fan house heater tubes but obviously smaller. Anyone know where this tubing can be sourced from ? We'd need about 4m to be safe. Thanks

What about piecing together some pre- heater hose? it measures 24mm id.
Also, it would be very cool of you to document the convertible rail replacement as the sticky thread really doesn't explain or show how and what is needed to do this. Pictures along the way would be awesome.
