Does anyone know of a replacement for the lock on the thing shop glovebox (thing shop part #133857131)? $25 seems a little steep. They sent me two glove box kits because the first one was damaged during shipping. Kudos to them for making good on that, but I have gone through both of the locks, and each have self destructed almost immediately. Perhaps I haven't bent the metal far enough where the latch catches, but it does catch... and then the whole thing flies apart like a little spring loaded bomb. Has anyone else had this problem? I like the idea of having my radio somewhat secured, but should I just give up on the whole thing and write it off as a lesson in not trying to fix something that isn't broken?

The part number (via a quick Google search) is for late model Beetles.

There are vendors selling the Hella lock for about the same price.

Then there are of course the Chinese ones for less.

Or you could try your luck with a used one from the Samba classifieds or a swap meet.

Are the Thing shop locks Hella or Chinese?

I didn't even think to google it. I just assumed it was a thing shop specific number. You just saved me $10. Thanks!

Whenever possible, Thing Shop uses the VW parts numbering method
