Would VW have reversed the image in this ad to sell buses to the British? I looked at the pic thinking it is a cool high hinge right hand drive bus, but, the letters on the bags of goods are all reversed. So my guess is that the negative was reversed to make the bus look like a right hand drive with doors on the left side. Very Happy

I think so as well...if it were a double door, the cargo door outer handle would be on the back door?

So why do the wipers park on different sides in each picture?

Left hand gas door? Reversed image for sure, but was it done on purpose or not is the real question.

Common practice of everyone trying to sell products to the British market- remember the Tarryton Cigarette ads? The black eye was always on the right one, too. It obviously didn't work out so well for "tserC" toothpaste however...

It's still done today in the UK.

Loads of car commercials are filmed with LHD vehicles and flipped in post production to look like they're RHD.

The giveaway is that the number plate is readable in mirror image like 101XMX and sometimes you can see the badge is reversed if it's in HD.

The VW logo in the lower corner is clearly reversed.

This is clearly nefarious on part of VW. Someone should write to them and have them apologize.

Here's evidence of more photoshopping from 1962 and 1963. They were ahead of their time.

it is common practice to flip images for layout purposes. It usually looks better if the car, or person, or whatever, is looking "into" the literature rather than "out"...that is, towards the spine, rather than the edge of the page...
