We want to get out to Hood River Oregon this tomorrow and do not know of any stealth or other wise great places to camp.
Prefer a stealth location near the Kites?

for me ... not so easy; for you with that new paint you're van is sporting ... try the middle of a field .. it'll just look like there's a big shrub in the middle of it! |

I found a good spot but it's about 25 minutes south of Hood River on hwy 35. There are multiple primitive sites on the west side of the highway near the Dog River Trail trailhead.
Right about here: http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=...amp;tab=wl
There were other van campers in the area but far enough away. You're right next to the river and you can see Mt Hood. _________________ 89' Dove Blue Syncro Hightop |

VanWilder,
Wowzer, that website:
http://www.eugenecarsey.com/camp/default.htm
is an AMAZING directory of free campsites! What a treasure!
Thanks for sharing this link.

South on Hwy 35 about 15 miles, left on Pinemont Dr between Odell and Parkdale. You get into USFS pretty quick, just pick a nice spot. _________________ 1978 Sage Green P22 Westfalia

I've camped the Gorge area about a half a dozen times...every time it has been so windy and loud.
We went last Saturday and of course it was loud and windy...I was hoping that maybe it would be different..but nope.
I suggest going inland at least 5 miles or so to get away from what I've mentioned...
Good luck! |
