|
|
Was going through some old HOT ROD Magazines and stumbled across this August 1976 Issue with a Wheels & Tires Guide.
Behold, there were photos of the Pacific Italia CARRERA Wheel with the "PI" Center Cap.
Also a photo of the Pacific Italia RIVIERA Wheel.
Great Image for those seeking the correct Center Caps.

Glad for that last post type3nut all the wheels I have and found and never knew that those caps were correct for those wheels. I've seen the ones for the carrera wheel but I've never seen those caps that are on the riviera wheel that's gonna be a tough one to find. Great info/reference. _________________ ** HELL YEAH I'LL SELL IT TO YOU**

Found another photo of the PACIFIC-ITALIA CARRERA WHEELS in 1973 Petersen's Complete Book of Street Machines, Wheel Directory.
Anyone have information on where the name "Performance Industries" came from?

I was informed today about the company name sake of this wheel.
Early production "CARRERA" wheels were made by PERFORMANCE INDUSTRIES but was soon changed to PACIFIC-ITALIA due to Registered Trade Mark company name rights. I was told that some of the early production wheels were marked Performance Industries and that the later wheels were not marked.
Would be a rare find of the early production, anyone have these please post a photo.
So, they Originally are PERFORMANCE INDUSTRIES. |

Hi,
I just found a set of these Pacific Italia or Performance Industries wheels, and was delighted to see the add with the 1971 date, as my car is precisely a 1971 Super Beetle.
Mines are apparently clean or blasted. Were they always painted? I see most of them in black and one of them (the one restored on the maroon car) painted in gray. So... how were they done originally? Being my car Marina Blue, I would love to hear they were not necesarilly black, but I will do the correct thing, even if only black was available.
Thanks,
Victor

Hey Victor,
I have only ever found these wheels painted Black but I have had them where the Black is to the rim edge and then to the inner edge close to the openings.
What is the backspace of your wheels ? ... I've had them in 3.125 and 3.75 backspace. |

I am embarrased to admit I have no clue as to measurements. In fact, I just saw them briefly but got them from a knowledgeable guy who had them for his Super Beetle, so I am trusting that whatever it is, they will fit ok.
Thanks!

Yes, If you have the Performance Industries "CARRERA" Mag Wheels the Center Hole Bore is 3.25" / 3 1/4" which is 82mm, ISP "PI" Center Caps will fit. These are aluminum not Plastic Snap In like the originals. They are held in by set screws, so no one can steal them. |
