|
|
So, as I was heading out this morning to do a little last min prep on the van that happened to be parked in the garage (normally on the street as the wife's car triumphs) I noticed a small puddle of coolant on the floor underneath the van.
I grabbed the creeper and slid underneath to find the source of the leak, and of course when I pushed on it, the rate changed from a flow to a stream... so obviously I have a more serious issue, and I am glad that I caught it before heading up the Clackamas River area this afternoon.
Questions....
1) Replace the whole kit with one of the stainless options?
2) Replace the whole kit with Marine grade hose?
Does anyone have the exact dimensions?
3) fix with the GoWesty kit and wait for the next issue?
I travel for the majority of the year for work, and I obviously want to get this taken care of sooner than later as I think that I am going to be back out of town as early as next weekend, and don't want to have this issue hanging over my head for the winter.
From what I am gathering the OEM pipes are no longer available? Mine are 22 years old and have 158k on them... so they cant be too bad.
Thank you for your input...

It will help if you let us know where exactly you have a leak.
Possible to post a pic?
Also, can you say what year van you have?
If it's an 84 or earlier then you have the steel pipes in between, late 85 and on have plastic.
I'm taking a guess by the way you say you poke at it and it leaks more... could this be the connection between the plastic pipes and the coolant lines?
If so, the ends of the plastic lines are known for spitting out the end-cap. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Thanks for the reply
The van is a 1988 Westy GL.
Photo looking directly at the leaky fitting. The hose in question the the one that comes off of the radiator on and angle vs straight out the bottom on the right side.

That's pretty much where mine started leaking. I tightened them down a couple of times which helped for a while but eventually the leak always came back. I bought the 2 peice set from GW and have been very happy with them. _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

I guess that it is time to cut into the project and check to see if "StormForge's" situation is what I am having... It certainly would be far more cost effective than replacing the whole kit... Currently at least. I was trying to put off a bunch of the big stuff until the Bostig conversion next winter.
Any other input is greatly appreciated.

And this was located inside the bulge of the hose...

I cleaned mine up real good and hammered it halfway back in then put a bead of JB weld on it then hammered it all the way back in...then put another bead of JB and let it cure.
no leaks yet. |
