|
|
I have a rather simple question. Is there a limit on how long I can leave a motor on an engine stand? I have a normal engine stand with the VW 2 post adapter. I probably won't be working on the motor that much, but would like it to be accessible if I get the urge to work on it. Or would using the 4 post adapter that came with the stand be better to distribute the load better?
Thanks! _________________ Joe P.

The answer is......how long can your wife stand it being on there....hehehe.
Really, it can be there as long as you want with no harm or distortions if that's what your worried about.

Do you have a cheap Chinese adapter or the well made VW Alley? _________________ Glenn

Thanks for the info. I have the better one by VW Alley, and the stand is a heavy duty one from Harbor Freight. I just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any problems with the case if it were mounted there for a long time.
And I'm not worried about the wife. _________________ Joe P.

the difference is, when installed in the car it has four fasteners holding it in, but on the vw stands it has just two on the left side case...
To the OP, i've had a fully built engine installed on a vw alley stand for several years, no worries... _________________

Thanks everyone! Yea, I was concerned with the additional stress on the side of the motor that is holding it up. Since when it is installed in a car, there is a greater load surface to distribute the weight around. _________________ Joe P.
