|
|
I currently have a chrome emblem on my bus and I'm going to change it to a painted one I have. The chrome emblem has threaded studs upon which wing nuts are attached to secured it to the bus. The painted emblem
has studs on the back which are not threaded. My question is, how is the
painted emblem attached to the bus? |

you need these little slide on clips, they slide on easybut you have to pry them off, that way your emblem dosent fall off or get stolen, take your emblem to a auto part store and show it to them they will get you what you need |

They're commonly called "speed nuts". |

this is what you're looking for. you can find it at any local hardware store too. i would suggest going the hardware store route. if you walk into a auto zone or pep boys asking for a clip to hold on your emblem the clerks there probably would not know what to do because they'll want to look it up in the computer first. _________________ Missouri Micros |

BTW. in case you did not know, the chrome emblem w/ the threaded studs is an aftermarket emblem. the painted one w/ the smooth studs is an original VW emblem. _________________ Missouri Micros |

for those bus owners running an aftermarket front emblem, some pieces of fuel line make the perfect seal for the threaded studs. _________________ WANTED:

The original emblems has little rubber washers on the studs. They have these at the hardware store too. |
Little O-rings also work fine. |

Not neccesarily... I threaded the stud posts on my buses' original emblem, and have also done it to a bunch of originals that I've sold. |

My buddy that has a VW shop and worked for VW back in the day when bugs and busses were on the lot for sale new told me they actually used little pieces of fuel line for the studs as seals rather then producing a special seal, so fuel line is the most og thing to use. _________________ Hoockd on fonicks werkt for mee?

I have some originals and they look like washers to me. I don't see any braiding on the side like fuel line.
They do have a 211 part number in the parts book:
A lot (all?) of the emblems also had little rectangular pads on the back. Material is similar to grey door seal rubber but thinner. _________________ How to Post Photos

I'll have to check with my buddy, maybe I missunderstood him. he may have said they used fuel line to replace the seal, but I don't know why they would have to replace them back then _________________ Hoockd on fonicks werkt for mee?

Could somebody post up a pic or two of what the original seals looked like. I need to put the OG paint one that I just got on my bus and I wanted to get it right the first time before I put those impossibe to remove clips on. _________________ 58 Coral Red ragtop(Diana's car)

The cheesy aftermarket ones are a PIA. The og ones are decent. A tiny bit of grease on the tip helps it start, then a little twist. |

Thanks All!! I went to my local ACE hardware and got the speed nuts!
I plan on painting my bus soon, then I will install the painted emblem.
The after market chrome emblem gets rusty pretty quick. |
