This is actually the 25th annual Transporterfest. I haven't run them all, but have a pretty good history with the event over the last two decades. It all started way back in 1986 with a gathering of old buses at Hopkinton State Park in eastern Mass.
I don't know if many Vanagons were there as they were still available new back then. From what I'm told there were a lot of split window buses at the show then though. The EuroVan and New Beetle were still a long way away, but they are all welcome now since the event is for all VWs. I think I attended my first Transporterfest in 1988 or '89, after moving to Mass. and hooking up with LiMBO and NEATO.
We have a brand new camping location this year for Saturday Oct. 9th.
http://www.peaceabbey.org/
The Peace Abbey in Sherborn, MA will be hosting a celebration of John Lennon's birthday and a peace/VW bus fest. Camping is only $10 and they have showers, 24 hr. restrooms and electric as needed. It should be a fun time and more details will be available here, and at the above website as the date gets closer.
And of course there will be a Sunday morning caravan to the show in Brookline, MA. _________________ Stan's Classic Service, specializing in air-cooled VWs:

We are planning to attend this year (finally). I hope to have one of the Bays on the road by then. If not, I'm loading the rally beetle up on a trailer and dragging it down behind the 'burban and share it's unrestored state before the real work begins. _________________

I plan to attend this year in a bus.
I've been to five T'fests.
Three in buses, two in regular cars.
Its a bit of a haul from So. Jersey. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

I'll be there as usual. I'm wrapping up a Fuel Injection upgrade and revolving all my pans around this show. The night before I have a wedding but after I'm partying with the twins and local VW crew, celebrating John's 70th, then off to the show the next day _________________ '73 Transporter 1.7L Dual Carb

As we near T-fest, My brother and I are hosting a campout/bbq at my house in Leominster, about 1hr west of the show the night before. so camping and hanging out the day before hand is recommended especially if you're driving from the south. Plenty of food and drinks along with a caravan in the morning. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

I'm planning to bring my '63 to the show this year. Lots of none original stuff...but overall mostly stock except for the wheels, brakes, beam and alternator conversion. Any thoughts on what category it fits best into? Stock?, Modified?, Mild Custom?
If you see it there, be sure to stop by and say "Hey".
Some recent pics from my build thread...

Last T-fest I helped judge, it was "Non-Bus Aircooled".
It is a Transporter-fest, after all.
Some guy brought a '68 military Type 181 when I was judging.
I looked underneath, saw the Reduction Gear Boxes, and said to myself, We Have A Winnah! _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

The classes have changed a bit since J.dot was a judge. You will be in our Bug Sedan/Sunroof class. We don't have custom and stock classes.
All the class judging is now people's choice and you don't vote in your own class. I like people's choice better than traditional judging as I think it is fairer and really means something when other car show participants vote for your ride.
We look forward to seeing your Bug there this year. |
Sounds good...looking forward to the show...thanks! |
