|
|
Hi, I'm planing on replacing the body moldings on my 1967 6V Euro 1300 Beetle.
Now, I notice on the WW catalogue that I can buy a 63-66 set and a 1967 only set.
Can you guys tell me the difference between those two sets and which one I should buy for my Euro 67. How much hazle is it changing the moldings, do I need one type of new molding mounting clips or many?
Any special tricks I should have in mind when loosening the old moldings and installing the new ones?
Thanks, Al _________________ 1967 European 6V Volkswagen 1300 Beetle |

'63-'66 is 17mm wide and the hood chrome is longer than -''62 because they have no Wolfsburg crest.
'67 is 10mm wide. The body side moldings are the same as '68-up, but the hood molding is longer on a '67, no fresh air louvers.
For your climate I think the stainless ones might look better longer, not much price difference between them. |

I just bought and installed a set for my 67 from West Coast Metric in stainless steel. It is a first rate product. Taking the old moulding off is easy, you should be able to grab hold of the top half of it and rotate it down from the top edge and it will pop off. The plastic clips should stay in their holes in the body. Examine these to make sure they are still in good shape and flexible and replace if necessary. Cheap and easy to do. To put the new moulding on, just hook one edge of the metal on the plastic clips and rotate the moulding into position to engage the other side of the plastic clip. It should pop on. You can adjust the position by sliding the metal forward or back as needed on the clips. Make sure you clear the door openings on the side pieces. The hood piece is more or less the same procedure. You may have to tweak the curves a little to get them to fit just right.

Wide vs narrow, it's a matter of personal preference.
I bought stainless steel trim for my 1967 bug. I prefer the wider type that earlier bug models had.
