Well between you and me I got out of the river just in time! Another 20 yards and she would have drowned out. I was very very lucky as I misread the depth of the river and it got deeper before I was able to get out!

Haha thanks! The engine in that van was a 2.1DJ 112bhp unit. Dont think you guys get them in the states. Had it been a diesel I think the turbo would have blown.

Is there a place where I can post off road meeting pics?

I was thinking we should have a thread for general vanagon photos. Our everyday campsite travel photos get put in the wilderness thread. Cause there's no better place.
Btw. The picture of the vanagon in the river is an awesome shot. That's gonna be on my desktop.

That's pretty bold/badass driving through all that water, I'd have a heart attack if my van was ever in that deep. btw what does that arrow point to at the 1:35 mark in the video?

good question, not sure, might be to hilight how the guy shoved the side drifting van to make it turn toward shore?

I used to think it was to hilight Gordon Craig, but he was probably driving..
Gordon Craig was a South African Syncronaut

The arrow is to highlight the guy that crapped his pants when he seen how awesome that syncro is.

The guy that the arrow is pointing at is looking to tie on a rope and the locals are lined up to assist in pulling the syncro to safety but it drives on by. Shocked

If you have ever driven in deep water you will notice that water comes in quite easily through the holes holding the step pads in. They must have had lots of water coming in while floating across.

That's a pretty sweet video too. Using the chili peppers song can't stop was a solid musical selection. The last part of the video with the van driving up the stairs is outrageous (not that any part of the video wasn't).

this thread is directly effecting my productivity at work today, lol Wink

That's a wild video... let's see how it's done it a Toyota: (I know... off topic, but we've got to size up the competition):

Link

Hmmm... makes me want to buy a Syncro! Smile

So, I was curious... is the Syncro scooting along the bottom or is it floating? It looks like it's floating but I can't imagine it would track that well... but then I've never taken a VW van any deeper in the water than the floor level.
