|
|
I'm sure anyone who's popped the interior panels off the front doors or hatch is familiar with the plastic clips holding the panels into the roughly 5/16th in holes.
I'm in the midst of a stereo installation, and would really like some way of anchoring replacement panels to the front doors and rear hatch that's more stable than those plastic clips.
I'd rather not drill holes for sheetmetal screws if there's a better way.
I can't find it, but I'm thinking there has got to be something that you can put in/clip into those ~5/16ths holes that's tapped for a screw/bolt to allow you to solidly anchor the panels, as well as easily remove them for when you remember you forgot/messed something up...
Anyone got any advice? |

well...not the answer you are looking for, but I drilled a few key spots and use color matched screwcaps over the sheet metal screws.

try these...
.
you can get 'em with vavious threads (like M6, or 1/4-20 or 5/16-18 if you want "inch" fasteners on yer ride)
They use 'em all over the place on new cars.
Try your local ACE Hardware or other Hardware store that stocks misc. stuff in them yellow bins
If you don't have access to the side of the hole/spot, try installing a "riv-nut" or similar threaded rivet type fastener.

There are also less expensive "simpler" versions available.
I've got some 10-24 thread cheapies laying around...PM me with an address and I'll mail you a few to try if you have trouble finding them locally.

Randy, those are for bay window buses and 1/4" uses, but these are 5/16" or better yet 8mm ones (I know I need to do that Samba ad soon but last week was crazy with race car windows for BOR Sac. race / event):

I used good old fashion beetle door panel clips on my custom panels
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VHD%2DN14%2D3893%2D50
Just cut a small hole in the panel before I recovered them so the clips would line up with the holes in the body
Worked like a charm and those clips are dirt cheap and still very available
I ended up with this look
