What years of seats are interchangeable? Will 71 seats fit in a 69? |

Seat tracks changed for '71-72 model year, and while the seats will fit onto an older track, they will wobble and not work well. If you can weld, you can install the later sliders in your older car.
The short answer is no, 1971 seats will not work properly in a 1969.
Also, seats mounts changed again for the 1973 model year. _________________ Brian

The '73 style Beetle seat tracks went all the way to the end of US Beetle production for the '79 model year (which would've been a SuperBeetle cabriolet). Although the style appears similar to a '75 and later Rabbit/Golf, the vertical C shaped tracks themselves are spaced slightly wider apart on those cars. To make a seat from the Rabbit/Golf fit a Beetle, the down-arms need to be repositioned slightly closer together via welding. I think only one of the down-arms needs to be repositioned. You "can" bend one of the arms inward slightly to reduce the spacing, but that also brings the outer arm faces out of vertical on which the plastic slider spacers are positioned into the seat tracks. Not ideal on such an important safety item. |
