That's looking good, d-rick! Love it when someone makes it their own, and uses it regularly as it was designed. That closet behind the drivers seat is pretty useless and intrusive, in my opinion.
I see your Riviera has the bulkhead behind the passenger seat. I have always thought the '78's came without the bulkhead, and had the swivel seat option. Guess I was wrong.
I also see you're able to store something on the padding in the "penthouse". If I put anything up there, my top won't close completely. Is there a trick you use to do it? _________________ -Kent-

Oops, you're right. My headbanger is only good for banging my head. It's pretty flimsy, so only the lightest stuff can be placed up there. _________________ -Kent-

yep that's just the head banger. I store the top bunk cushion,my bus depot ez awning, sheets and a tapestry up there..and of course hit my head every now and again..
I can only store a blanket and sheets up in the top bunk and still pull the top down. _________________ 1959 mango-trailerbus

does anyone know what butcher block laminate was used in the Riviera [late] bay campers?
ive been searching forever and cant seem to find it or anything comparable (laminate or real or otherwise).
the oak seems pretty easy/reasonable to match, and i believe @miahmoon already is offering replacements e.g. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2219230
but that bucher block...man, ive been trying for months to figure it out. i've ordered various swatches, gone to custom camper/rv shops gone thru old laminate books etc.
specifically, the one on the folded table on my Rivi here...

That's a beautiful Riviera, metahacker!
Are you sure that butcher block is original? The grain on mine isn't nearly as pronounced, and looks pretty washed out in comparison.
As for replacement, I was going to see if remnants from Ikea's butcher block kitchen countertops will work. Although I expect they will be too thick.
If you do find good replacement laminate, please let us know where it was found. _________________ -Kent-

I am in Encinitas if you guys ever wanted to hang out (I met Jason once at aeromech's home).
Sadly I don't have an orange bus or a Riviera, but I do love them. _________________ 1979 Sage Green California Westy. |

That's pretty much a laminate flooring pattern, common on "quick- click" flooring. I have a close cousin of that in half my house and D/A/N and neena have it for the floor of their Riviera also.
Actually- here's a butcher block countertop laminate that looks damn close to me:

Hey Jason, what is your tire/wheel configuration (seems larger than standard), these really look nice! _________________ Click to view image |

I know this has been a regular topic - sliding Rivi side windows......
Mine is a 79 with the Aluminium framed slide windows with the lock in the lower corner (black on the inside silver out).
I desperately need to find two new seals having destroyed the original ones when pulling out the windows (rotten rubber and rust).
There has been a comment that these were VW OEM fitment and ASI only added the screens.
Either way can anybody help either with a part number for the seals or if not OEM where I might be able to get them from.
Photo attached to give an idea.
All help appreciated,
Chris

Does anyone know if a Riviera top that raises in the rear can be installed on a bus that had previously had a top that raised in the front and what mods need to be made? |

Welcome,
I'm not aware of a Riv top that hinges at the front, they all go straight up don't they? What you propose may be possible, but we'll need to see pics of your bus, and the top you want to install first. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I know they all go straight up. What I meant was, some have the cargo bin in the front and raise in the back 3/4 of the roof and some have the cargo bin in the back and raise in the front 3/4 of the roof. I have one that raises in the back and am wondering if I can install it on a bus that previously had one that raised in the front. |

Can't recall having seen a Riviera built that had the cargo rack in the back of the roof. Might be a different camper conversion. Or maybe not. I'd love to see what you have.
I suppose the answer to the question lies in where the roof hole was cut. Might have to do some measuring of what you have, and ask around to see if someone can measure theirs to compare.
As always, a series of photos of your bus would help us help you. _________________ nothing |
