Ok, apparently my 59 was wrecked way back in the day, and it looks like they replaced it with a newer hood. What should i be looking for on an accurate hood. Or is it possible to just make the current hood look period correct? |

You want a "four tab hood" which has been discussed to death on here. There are some minor differences in them over the years, also discussed to death. Poke around and you'll find more information than you really wanted. _________________ Not enough car seats fit into my:

All righty, then. Laziness isn't the key. Maybe learning to use the search might be helpful, so include "tab" and "4" or "four." This has indeed been beaten to death. Help yourself to the dozens of threads on four tab hoods. I will make it easy:

Did you try the 58/59 Discussion thread? The current topic is the front hood. _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

I had no idea the hood was referred to as x "tab" so i did not know to search for that. My last rebuild was in the early 90s and was a 68, so i'm delving into a whole different world with this 59.
Thanks for the replies though. When i got home today i checked out the hood, and it is in fact a 4 tab which means its not right. The hood is in pretty crappy shape so i don't feel bad about replacing it. I'm afraid to start tearing the car down because i can already tell the hood and driver's fender aren't original to the car, and the paint on the drivers quarter panel also has the same "off color" to it that the hood and fender do. Had the body off to do the pans and the framehead and everything are all straight at least. |

A 59 would have had a 4-tab hood. The later hoods had three holes for the VW emblem. |
